Bought a Max care warranty for mine (2009 C4S 28K miles) at Carmax for 2100 dollars. Up to 70K miles or four years, with 500 deductible. last month I had a coolant seepage leak and ignition switch go bad, total repair cost was 3200 dollars at the dealer. I'm ahead already.....

Call them and ask for Tarah Land (tarah.land@sunsetimports.com) - 503.641.8600.

Apparently, Porsche just started their own "Porsche" branded extended warranty though a third party. This warranty availability is 2 months old. Seeing as ours is a 991 C4S, I've decided I'm comfortable with the price I've been quoted. I don't mind their making a living, just not all on me.

Thanks, Daniel!

$5700 quote from dealer. $250 deductible, 3/36000 for "Platinum" inclusionary warranty from Porsche Financial Services that is administered by Safe-Guard. 2011 991S with 46,000 with one month left on CPO. I'll pass and self insure.

Did you buy the car from Carmax? And buy the warranty at the same time?
That seems like a really good/low price assuming the warranty is full/platinum without tricky exclusions... I have a 2010 C4S cab with less than 22k miles on it and my feeling from all the threads on this is insuring it would cost at least 2x that...

Yes I bought it from Carmax when I bought the car. It's inclusionary but does not cover wear items. It was 2100 or so. They go through another company and actually do it themselves.

Any info on the Porsche extended warranty" I've still got 18 months on my CPO, but (having suffered IMS failure on my 996) I'd like to know what options are out there. In particular any limitations on age, mileage, etc.

#2: This issue of "I'd rather put it in the bank rather than prepaying expenses that may never occur" is an interesting one, given that you'd probably earn less than 0.05% on your money in the bank, but inflation has been running at 2%-3% so it could be argued that paying in advance is a better deal.

#3: CPO does not mean that the car has been certified to have been pre-owned and passed an inspection. It means that it comes with a factory warranty. Porsche CPO is 6 years/100,000 miles from the original in-service date, or 2 years/100,000 miles, which ever is greater.

#4: If/when something needs to be fixed, it can get very expensive, very quick. Do you financially care? If so, you need protection.

#5: I bought an aftermarket extended warranty on my 993. Given that it paid for my engine to be completely rebuilt by a Porsche dealer ($22K), along with all of the other smaller issues (steering rack, etc.) I was happy with my decision to buy the warranty - which was sold to me by the same Porsche dealer. In the 13 months and 8,000 miles I drove my GTS, I didn't get to test the CPO because it was also covered by the original factory warranty - and the issues were so minor I can't remember what they were.

#6: The best way to know if the extended warranty will pay is to talk to the service manager where you intend to have your car repaired. They will tell you which is the best one to use.

#7: See #1.
which provider did you have that covered the engine rebuild? Fidelity? Or someone else?
