.......more on humidity.

Using a totally uncalibrated, $7 hydrometer... I set the unit on the windshield of the 997 last night in a garage that had been closed for 48hrs: at 7am the meter read 70% ....set outside at 7am-8 it registered 89%.

I had my wife take it inside, where the house A/C seemingly has been running for the last three months: it registered 59%

The outside temp at the time was 68f. The garage is about 150' from a tidal marsh and the there was both a foggy mist and wet grass this morning.

I'm too am going to buy a dehumidifier.

As some people heat their garages up north so there is not to much initial wear and tear on start up I gave it some thought to AC the garage when I lived in Tucson. It would be well over an 110 in there in the middle of the night. That can't be good and I had so much in vested into two Porsche's at the time. I would say I never got around to it before I moved away.

You got to wonder how good it is for a new car to bake on the lot before it is sold? They just set there in a 100+ temps all summer long in the Southwest.

My neighbor hung a wall unit A/C in his garage to cool his Corvette. It also makes the garage a bearable place to be in the summertime. I'm thinking of following his lead.

Let me clarify -- follow his lead on the A/C - NOT on a Corvette!!

Target has a 30 pint De-Humidifier marked down 30% to $118. There'll be one in my garage tonight. Will report.

I'm convinced. 12hrs later - self: "Don't read instructions: just turn it on High" - my 2C garage w/insulated ceiling, metal doors, etc. went from 70% to 47% ...and I measured out 2.5gal from the catch pan. The rotors on my Boxster would rust but these 997's do not, so there were no visible signs of oxidation.

Let us know how that dehumidifier performs. I doubt you'll see any significant improvement. An AC is a dehumidifier - the correct tool. Get a window version if you must.

Edited: OK. I had not read the results above. If it works, it works. Fantastic!

If it sucked 2.5 gallons of water out of the air it must be doing something right. You might want to rig up a drain hose to the outside so you don't have to empty the catch pan. I don't have to worry much about humidity, right now it's about 12% outside

Nah, you got the right one. That "grill" looks like the slats on the spoiler of a Carrara White 997!

.......24hrs later: nearly 5 gallons extracted ..even tho' I RTFM ..and turned it down to a middle setting last night. The relative humidity is now around 44%. You can actuallly see it up/down a few degrees when the unit cycles. (I can't tell if there's a timer in it or some sort of humidistat?) I've also ported it thru the wall so I don't have to empty the bed pan.

ADias: It also uses freon to make condensation - I guess it just eliminates cooling coils? I don't hang inisde in Summer, so a heater is more important to me than A/C.

Problem now: I don't want to open the frickin' doors!?
