How can I tell if my rear spoiler is deploying automatically?
I can't see it. I can't hear it. I've even tried to look at my reflection in a shiny van as I drive by but can't quite catch the image. So short of having an observer riding next to me, is there any way to tell?

I had my friend in her Porsche following me. We were on the phone. For the 997 it is supposed to come up at a true 75 mph. With my car 75 mph is an 'indicated 78.' Sure enough, just as I hit 78 indicated, it went up. If you're next to a tanker truck (shiny) or a black van with a good reflection, you should be able to confirm that it is up, as an alternative to the secondary vehicle observer.

Wouldn't it be nice if the "manually deployed" LED in the spoiler switch would light when it deployed automatically?
And did I read that V-max is electronically limited if it does not deploy?
Regardless, I'm sure it looks really cool when it comes up... <g>

My son calls them "bombs on wheels". The liquified propane trucks are worse.

Vmax is not electronically governed if the tail is non-op. The manual simply advises you to keep your speed down if the spoiler is not working.

In my old Boxster S (986) I put a LED (hack) in one of the unused switch locations that would blink when the spoiler was going up or down and stay on when the spoiler was deployed. I bought it from a guy in Germany for about $30.
It was a nice 'conversation' piece; added nothing to function.
