Question OT Anyone here using Windows Vista yet?

I am buying a new notebook and was told by Dell that all the Inspiron's are now coming with Vista(XP is no longer an option) so I'm a bit skeptical since 1) it's Microsoft and 2) so new.
Thoughts are most welcome.

Still using Windows 2000 on most computers. Why upgrade?

I would just install XP Pro when you get the computer. You want to wipeout all the crap Dell puts on the computer anyway.

No.

Maybe on the next CPU due in about a week.

I'm not all that excited, tho. I may keep what we have.

Vista is just XP with nicer graphics (depending on the "version" you are purchasing) and a few changes to make it more secure...

Trouble is - because of the security changes - not all software currently works with it and of course - don't forget to get your Anti-Virus (which should be out by now for Vista)...

There is a very comprehensive article about Windows Vista in the January 2007 edition of PC Magazine. It also includes a section about using Vista in the work environment. Hope this helps.

I heard some rumours that Vista has restrictions on copyright stuff,
like how many music CD's you can copy, or how many times you can rip a song from a CD, etc...

I find that hard to believe, I think it's BS if it's true, but I heard it from some IT guys at work.
Anybody here know better? True or False?

I"ll only run Vista if I'm forced to, if buying a new computer with it pre-installed.

There's an excellent thread on this topic with lots of happy users of Vista in the OT Forum.

I still run the Vista beta on one of my work desktops (my Office2007 beta expired). I'm less than impressed with Vista and will wait for quite a while before I upgrade. If you're forced into it, I would do as someone recommended and wipe the drive and replace with a more mature XP (and a much smaller footprint).

I just bought a new Mac and added a program called "parallels". This allows me to run multiple OS's like Windows Vista at the ame time I am running OS X Tiger. You still can run Windows while figuring out the ultimate "How to rid your life from Microsoft". It works great. I will upgrade all my pcs this year to Apples. Apples are growing in popularity again.
