Need Roof Rack & Cargo Box Advice
Hello everyone. I am looking to purchase a roof rack and cargo box for my '02 996TT. Does anyone have any advice regarding a nice cargo box? The Thule Hyper xl looks great but at 90" long....Im worried it might be to long.
Also, do I have to buy a Porsche brand rack or will Yakima or Thule work? Ive done an extensive search on this topic and I think I have to buy the Porsche brand.
Thanks for the help,

I had a 4S that I did a lot of stuff with.
Bought the Porsche rack system. GF at the time had a VW bug with a rack and a bike mount. It turned out that from that era the VW and Porsche attachments for the rails were the same. It's a funky flat square with a bolt you tighten down on. I used all sorts of stuff - bikes, boards, box and they interchanged.
VW and Porsche prices were not the same for the same kit.
YMMV.

Racks and box
I got a Yakima set of racks which came with rubber bases that scratched the paint around the roof mounting points. I immediately went with Porsche brand racks which mount into the roof supports and are way more aero and no scratching. For the box I chose the Thule Atlantis 1600 for the extra space. I haul lots of gear in it, but if it's just for snowboarding or skiing then a lower profile box is better. i found the metric bolts to be the weak spot as they don't last with constant removing.

Thanks for the feedback! Also, I forgot to mention in the latest Panorama Mag #719, they did a story on a 996TT and owner and how he uses it for everything from winter ski's to hauling a canoe. They show a pic of his cargo box and that looks perfect. Actually looks a lot like the Thule Hyper but not sure. Anyone know what box it is?

I have Porsche rack with Yakima Box. I can fit a front tire and wheel in the front and back of the Yakima and one rear and wheel in the middle. I carry the other rear wheel in the passenger seat.
