Default Porsche 996 Turbo - Battery/generator fail :-(

Just bought my Porsche 996 Turbo 2001 with manual transmission.

The car has just been made service and 111 point test at Porsche Twente.

Then I drive 300 km and then suddenly aps and PMS lamp starts to light Up. Running a little further and then Battery / generator fail starts light Up and finally all alarm light starts light up and the car stalls. The car's has a new battery but aften this is completely flat.

Now the car is driven to repair. What do you think is wrong with the car and why Porsche has not seen the error of service and 111 point test. Hope It not to expence to fix.

My personal experience with failed alternator, most of the time replacement of the voltage regulator within the alternator is "the" solution (around $30.00 part). Here's some good information:

Ill bet money it was the boltage reg! The reg is on the backside of the alternator!

given the regulator is a component and included part of the bosch alternator, coupled with the reality that "for hire" mechanics don't want to ( or just won't ) mess around with replacing the reg, they simply buy the new alternator. so they can get paid.

only diy'rs are going to mess with the $30.00 reg r&r.

The bearing failed on my OEM alternator and it wasn't spinning internally as it should - that may be it or as other have said, it might be the voltage regulator. I picked up a reman Bosch unit and all is well.
