Default Fuel Pump Fuse Blew

So my 30 amp fuel pump fuse blew, tank was 1/3rd full, replaced the fuse and all ok again but guess there is an underlying problem and it will likely happen again guys ??

Any burning smell when you took off the fuel tank access cover? Take off the electrical plug and look at the condition. I remember seing one in very bad shape. Here's a picture from a forum (?) member...

thks again, ok inspected the connector which is fortunately absolutely fine, should I take the pump out and inspect it ??
Apparently this is standard Bosch VW Audi group part which can be ordered much more cheaply as it also fits other non Porsche models

Hum....I doubt it is a standard part but if you found anything about that please let us know! Here's some links about pump removal etc.... Fuel pump system also include a relay part#996-615-101-00. This relay is under the cluster driver side on the relay support #1 and can be something to look at....

A good thing to do would be to measure the amps draw of the pump with a clamp meter. Unfortunately I cannot found the exact amperage of a pump. Some say 7.5 amps and other 10 amps.....

I just found the thread I was looking for !!!! Look at the wiring under the pump, there is a connector that can be at fault!

In fact it is.....It is not reassuring to drive a car with this type of problem. Especially a defective fuel pump. It is possible the pump is getting weak and it draw too much amperage. But a faulty wire somewhere in the system is also a possibility....Any modification or repair lately?

Its noteworthy that most clamp meters only measure AC current and not DC. Typical multimeters need to measure the DC current in series with the circuit.

very true! Make sure to use one that will measure DC on the clamp.

I admit the jaw is big and sometimes it is difficult to get it around the wire...But it does a decent job with 2.5 % of accuracy....

My wife is not so sure about the rather invasive Petrol aftershave & the pump is rather a fiddle to take out. So now I plan to simply drive it with some spare 30 amp fuses & if it goes again I will buy a new pump (cheapest price I found is design911.co.uk circa $450)
