I'd be surprised if the 996 Turbo has an air/oil separator, oil vapor would be routed back to the reservoir just like all the air cooled Mezgers that came before it.

FYI, You are posting in the 996 turbo forum which has a completely different engine than what is in a boxster. With that being said, the M96/97 motor design (like what is in your boxster and n/a 996) has a multitude of design issues, one of them being bearing wear that causes low oil pressure.
