Why would I get pissed? Or anyone else for that matter? He sounds like other guys joining the anti-996 bandwagon. Im sure you´ll find people calling the 997 ugly too.
There are guys who own hypercars who also have 996´s in the garage, so the 996 must be doing something right. But hey, I guess they didnt have the money to go for the 997

LOL a decent low mileage example for $45k. What a ****ing moron.

^ i read that as a reference to the 996 turbo at 45 for a "decent" one. not the 997t.
either way, "low" in that case would still be above 50k miles lol. whatever, they aren't broken in until 30k miles anyway.

WTF?
"A decent, first year example with low miles will set you back anywhere between $45,000 and $65,000, depending on options, colors, and the previous owner’s irrational sentimental attachment."
How is that working for you? BS article!

Yes, I found that pretty funny. The $45k "decent example" he linked to was in an accident. There is no way you will find a decent low-mile 997TT under $55k today. There is at least a $15k premium between a 996TT and 997TT of comparable condition, and anyone that believes this number is lower is "not honest in where their allegiances truly lie".

Well, honestly, the 997 interior is light years more attractive than the "Enchantment Under the Sea" styling of the 996. But exterior styling on the 997 is screwed up by the weird protruding driving lights in the front bumper cover. It feels like Porsche was trying too hard.

if i hear ONE more comment about these 15 year old lights being "runny eggs", in spite of the fact they harken back as direct descendants of the gt1, why i'll take at least a DOZEN lol
yeah, freddy's right ... what an abomination, what WERE they thinking in zuffenhausen LOL

I will never understand why some folks feel the need to pit the 996TT and 997TT against each other? They are different cars with different strengths and weaknesses. Thus they appeal to different types of people.
Are there commentators going around saying the 964 Turbo is crap and the 930 or 993 Turbo is "the one to own"? If anyone is they are dipsh!ts because owning any of them is a great way to go.
Just buy what you like.

Nailed it! Those are my thoughts as well.
What I find even more crazy is that 996tt and 997.1tt are probably the most similar of all of the generations when compared side by side. I don't understand how someone could adore one and hate the other??
I like them both Just happen to like the 6t a bit more.
Personally I feel like 997.1 tt is a refreshed 6tt (pretty extensive refresh but the hearts are the same). Oh well, to each their own.

I agree with the basic premise of the article: The 997.1 is entering "really good performance value" pricing.
Where he loses me is the snarky and unwarranted (and largely subjective) criticisms of the 996tt. The article started as a discussion of some attainable pricing on early 997.1s, but then it veered into "6 v. 7" banter. The style of jalopnik seems to focus on snarky humor and "edgy" opinions, so maybe he's just appealing to readers that eat up the snark. I suppose "butt-ugly" is a catchier and more accessible description than, "a pleasing although uninspired design which at times struggles to blend modern requirements with classic 911 heritage, while at the same time achieving it's core goal of creating an attractive design that reminds people of where it came from."
Anyway, if you want to compare value (as in, how much do I get for my dollar, not, regardless of price which is better), I still think the 996 kicks the 997's a$$ any day of the week. Also, the 997 is clearly still depreciating, so I don't understand the basis for recent publications saying it's not.
