Shifter issue...
#16
My shifter feels horrible... just awful. Even my wife made fun of it. Looks like I have some sort of after market short shift kit. The white plastic block looking thing on the driver side appears to be broken where the metal rod inserts in to it. See picture. There is a bit play and slop because of this along with plastic on plastic sounds... Can I buy this part separately? I haven't been able to find it alone anywhere online... I guess the other option is to pick up the 997 SSK?

We're running 10% off all FUNCTION-FIRST products thru Dec 3.
The SHIFT-RIGHT Solution is now only $265.50, and adding that to your current B&M setup will net you exactly what you're looking for - short shifter throws with no shifter play.
The B&M kit has a tendency to wear out the white plastic shifter yoke prematurely due to the ball-end riding in the slot and wearing a groove into the inside of plastic piece. The Porsche design, with the square plastic block that snaps onto the ball-end, is a better design that won't wear things down nearly as quickly.
Purchasing the 997 SSK will give you the same shifter throw, but you'll be downgrading to the OEM sloppy plastic/rubber bushings and will lose shifter precision.
IMO, the best solution is adding the SHIFT-RIGHT to your B&M, which will replace the worn out pieces of your current shifter and preserve the short shifter throw that you like. You'll never have to mess with the fixing the shifter again!

Just replaced the B&M Trak shifter that came with my car:
With a regular B&M ssk with a stock ****:
Even if it isn't as good for the track, I like it way better. And the shift feel is very good - concur with the others that B&M is far from junk.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Very much appreciated...
I ended up splurging and picking up the numeric shifter. I was able to get it on sale so it wasn't too painful doing so. From every thing I've read it seems like the type of shifter I prefer and am after... Looking forward to getting it installed! I'll post up feedback on it in a later post.
