Default Thinking of going 996TT. Few questions???

Ok, probably a lot of questions. I am thinking about selling my Viper and getting into a Porsche 996, it is in a good price range for me. Love driving the Viper, it is an animal, but I would love a back seat to take my daughter around. This seems like it might be a good alternative. I enjoy track days on a few weekends here and there. Now I would like to pick some of your brains.

-What should I look for or anything to avoid?

-I will be modifying the car (looks and power). What kind of safe dependable level can I get? No major mods, mainly boltons.

- Any other input would be great.

Thanks.

I would suggest using the search function as these questions have been asked hundreds of times. Good luck in your search the 996TT is a great car.

I don't know what year Viper you have, but I had a '96 Viper GTS from 2000-2002. it was a great car, and with mods (headers, exhaust, gears) it was a beast.

Now I may be 15 years older, but I have to say I am enjoying my lightly modded 996 Turbo way more...it's easier to drive around town, handles the canyons better, pulls harder, and flies below the radar.

650-700 hp is the number I've seen thrown around as a safe level for the stock motor to handle (with upgraded turbos, exhaust, fuel injectors, fuel rail, fuel pump, clutch). Just a tune and exhaust will get you into a reliable low/ 500 hp range.

Wow pony, I come up with an idea, send you a link and you are already ahead of me. Let the race begin as to which Viper sells first and who gets a 996....we are friends, he know's my sarcastic humor lol!

I know not much is going to match my Viper for raw insanity, but it's time for a change!

Check "The Prestige Thread" to get a feel for the upper end of the 996tt price spectrum. Then take a look at the Craigslist thread for the best deals on the 996tt market. Good, well-priced cars normally don't sit on the market for long.

How old is your daughter? If she is older than 10, she won't be that comfy in the back.

As for mods, a simple tune will get you close to 500hp. Headers and exhaust will give you a little more. Stage 1 hybrid turbos will bring you up to @ 550hp. And that is still easy, daily driver friendly.

Funny, I've been thinking a Viper would be a fun car to have in addition to the 996. The only "muscle" car that I really like these days.
