I'm not Dr. Porsche, neither are you.
I simply gave an example of another German family (mine) who cannot agree on how to pronounce their name, so why should I lose any sleep over how anyone else pronounces some other persons last name?
It's silly.
Benchmark is a strong way to put it, it was just an example.
I can only imagine such a question coming up while laughing at how silly the topic is to begin with.
Sure, put them on the spot, on camera, and ask them point blank: "One syllable or two" and they will no doubt say "two" since that is the expected answer.
Once the camera is off and you walk away they will laugh, point, and continue to pronounce it whichever way rolls off the tongue the next time they say it, without a care in the world which way is "proper".
This topic always reminds me of this skit:

Some undies get into knots easier than others.

Nobody will disagree with that, I think. The problem is that the germans correctly pronounce it porsch-eh (or -ay if you prefer) but for some inexplicable reason americans seem to think that the letter e at the end of a word should be pronounced ah, which clearly it shouldn't.

I'm in Germany nearly every day. And while the poll is annoying because the correct answer, none of the above, is not included, this thread in its entirety is even more annoying.

Not bumping the thread just to say it sucks would go a long way towards making it go away
