Default Esco jack stands ok for engine drop?

Hi,
I am looking to buy Esco flat top jack stands for my 996tt but I would like to be able to drop the engine with them if required in the future. They extend to 21 inch, is that sufficient to pull the engine out or should I keep looking?
Thanks!

Never measured how high you have to have the car to remove engine but I can tell you if you can just install a lift. You can buy base plate lifts for like $1500 that will do the job if you have lower ceilings.

I have to put a 997TT motor back in here in the next couple of days after doing a camshaft repair so I might be able to give you a rough estimate at that time.

Thanks, guys. 34" from the jackpoints to the floor or from the rear cross beam to the floor? Basically what size jackstands do I need? I would get a lift but my landlord would probably not be a fan.

Bottom if car to the floor. Crossbrace comes out. Use truck jackstands on wood blocks. Theres a thread in 6so who did it this way

You need just around 24" at the jackstand of clearance if your going to use a lift table which is how I do it. My lift table is 11" tall and came from Harbor Freight (1000lbs Model) So if you can find a lower lift table you could go down lower..

I hope that helps

Awesome, thanks! In that case Esco jack stands at 21.5" should work if elevated by a couple of inches, nice!

Thanks for the link, krazy, very informative. I now have three heights to choose from, I think I'll just get the tallest stands.
