Default WANT TO BUY 996TT

HI Gang,

After a near miss on a 2003 coupe, I am in the market.

I would like:

Coupe
Six speed
Heated seats
Clean carfax
Close to original with few or NO mods.
A reasonable service and owner history
$40,000 +

I am in Austin, TX but will travel for the right car.

I am ready to go with cash (literally) in hand.

Sellers and any leads welcome.

PM or e-mail me fossilfuel@gmail.com

THANKS!!!

-mark

If I didn't have one already, I'd chase this one. Love the white.

#(%&#^@!^&*$!!!!

So, first I find a car that looks to be 'the one.' It is a loooong way away so I try to do as much as I can from a distance. I talk to the guy selling it a couple times, run a carfax, etc. We make a deal pending dealer PPI.

To make the whole thing happen fast I wholesale my present non p-car to CARMAX. I take a couple thousand dollar hit, but so be it if that's what it takes to get a 996TT in my garage.

I fly half way across the continent, cash in hand to buy the car. I have my Valentine 1 ready for a long but fun drive home.

I get there and 'the one' is a bit rougher than I expected and then the PPI turns up some stuff that make it NOT the one. So instead of a fun drive home in my new (to me) TT, I take the looong flights home last night.

At the airport, I start this thread, look on ebay, craigslist, etc.

I find the same car Centexsi points me to above. I text the seller from the out of town airport right away and we talk. Car sounds really good! x50, cool color, nice guy, records, etc. I ask if i can see it in the morning when i get home. He says sure, but he has some other folks coming at 9;30 am. I agree to meet him right after.

The meet is set a few miles west of Austin. As I am driving my 993 out there, I see THE car on the road. Seller is on test drive with 9:30 folks. Car looks GREAT, even better than in the pics.

I park around the corner and wait for my turn to see the car. 10, 20, 30, 40 minutes go by. The seller calls me. "Mark, i'm sorry, they are buying the car, we are headed to their bank." I said "well congratulations, you got full price, right?" He says no, he agreed to a lesser amount. WHAT!!!!??? He knew i was a block away waiting to see the car. I tell him I would pay full price. He says "Sorry." Again, super nice guy, I can't blame him for honoring the first people. BUT WHY take a discount when you have another buyer in the wings!!??? I had told him my story of the car and trip the day before, he knew i literally had "cash in hand"

So I hang my head and start to drive home. On the way my 993, which is now my only car (since I car-max'd my daily driver last week) starts missing and losing power. WTF!!!

I don't know what I have done to have all this bad luck. I REALLY try to live by the golden rule and treat people fairly.

I can only hope that the universe has an amazing car out there for me, because so far this sucks :-(

Thanks for reading my sad "first world problem" sob story.

keep the referrals coming.

I feel so bad for you! Your special car is just telling you to wait a little longer and it will find you- good karma works that way, I know you know that. Just sometimes it doesn't feel like that's what is going on, but I believe it is, and that you will eventually be a very happy camper.

That's a triple bummer. I feel badly for you, but believe an even better 996TT will soon come along.

Seller: "I have some people coming to look at the car at 9:30 am"

Me: "I'll be there at 8:30"

Don't make the same mistake twice.

Best of luck with the hunt.

Dude....i tried to get in earlier and he said those people called first. its a fine line between being too forceful or not. but in the end, you are right! (The Dude abides!)

SteveMFr, you are right as well. I am very lucky to have a 993. That said, mine is a 125k mile car and no museum piece by any stretch! She's old, smokey, leaky, creaky. I got her in semi rough shape and haven't had the time to get her up to snuff, so she's not really in DD condition (yet). Esp now with an undetermined power-loss/ high rpm miss situation.

Couple 996TT leads in the works....but keep em coming. THANKS!!

Sounds like that seller was a stand up guy and was ready to be done. He probably didn't want to mess around giving test drives if he could close the deal for a fair amount to the first folks. Bird in the hand.....

There are plenty of cars to look at - I think the search is 75% of the fun.
