Default 996 turbo vs 991 4s

Since so many talk about the cost of these cars and values/deals on this forum, I figured a picture is worth 47,000 word$.

Looks are a matter of taste and I love the 991 4s. Looks great from every angle and despite white being too common lately, this car looks good in it.

At the track, in stock form, these 2 are pretty equal with similarly capable drivers. The 4s will out brake and pull out of slow speed corners quicker, but the turbo reels it in. The 4s does it with seat cooling while leaving it in drive, with less perceived interference from the nannies. Turbo makes you sweat a little, and with the nannies on, will chop at your throttle and brakes more.

You can take phone calls/text hands free in the 4s, the turbo prefers you pay attention or buy some new electronics.

4s has multiple suspension settings(firm to really firm) and you can change the exhaust note/shift speed, etc. with a button while driving. The turbo, with PSS10's on soft is as compliant, and on firm, about the same as the 4s in sport mode(think that's what they call the cool button).

I'm sure there's more things other can add, just my quick observations from a little track time and driving around town in both. Saw the opportunity to compare when I pulled up this morning and figured may help someone considering which way to go in their next purchase.

The other part to consider is how much of that $47k you'll have left in the bank after you set up your turbo to spank the 4s. I wouldn't trade the feel of a more focused car for phone interruptions, pushbuttons, etc. (seat cooling, maybe).

as dated as our cars are, I am still impressed by how good they are with just a few tweaks. By good I mean that there aren't many cars that we can't keep up with in the twisties or on the track.

991s like the car above are 20-30K more expensive than our 996s, correct?

Like your writeup. Which is the better 4 season daily driver with dedicated studless snow tires?

new 991 is a superior car in fit / finish for interior and quality of parts used however. In terms of performance, under ~5k and c4s won't see a 996t . Fun factor, c4s lacks like you stated. Very electronically. New porsche's are becoming more and more DD vs. occasion cars , which correlates with heart racing moments and unforgettable memories.

I dont know. A friend took me in his 991 4s and i was blown away. The power was instany and the car felt very very aggressive. The sport exhaust was absolutely brutal in the best way possible. The paddle shifting was so smooth and quick. I was 100% plus impressed with his car. I have an x50 car with 15,000 miles and if i had the additional 30k, i might have to make the leap.

However one major thing holding me back. I just didnt see that as a potential collector car. So many of them, all very gadgety in cockpit and couldnt see any of the motor. Gorgeous car, but not a turbo. Very very impressive though. I may have been a little star struck though and not fully paying attention. He also has a 26,000mile 993s red with tan and is about as new as you would need from a car made in 96. 100% flawless.

With Kevin's ZC turbos and some bigger brakes, not much can get away or pass.
I was pulling away from an e63 AMG once we got to 110 and by 140 had him by many car lengths.
Made me think my next sedan replacement should be one of those.

His was $47,000 more with 18k miles versus mine with 58k miles.

I like everything about the 991. Except the proportion. It's just to big!

A friend of mine recently picked up a brand new 991.2 4S. I was pretty impressed with the car. I haven't driven it, only went for a ride and he wasn't pushing it terribly hard since it was the 2nd day he had the car and still doing the break-in, but I was impressed. It felt more like an AMG Mercedes than a sports car though.

Not saying that is a bad thing, but it does not have the sports car feel. It is very comfortable, very capable, and Im not sure there is a better DD for the price (I think the 991.1-.2 Turbo/Turbo S is better, but thats significantly more). It is such a change from the 996, and even from my 997.2 C4, that it doesn't feel like an evolution, it feels like it is a completely different model.. I guess technically, it is a completely different platform and that is what Porsche was going for.

On the other hand, another friend has a 991 GT3 which prior to this was the only 991 I've been in.... That still feels like a sports car, that thing is amazing. Pretty amazing to me that Porsche can do so many different things with the "same" car.

I personally don't like the looks of the 991; looks too much like an Audi. Plus it's too big and has way too many interior electronics.

I don't mind the look of the 991 the 4S looks the most modern of the bunch though with the red reflector strip that lights up. With the turbos now it is quite a lot more torque then the 991.1 and a lot more fun.

It could easily be my dd, where my 996 turbo is my weekend car.

Yeah it's a lot of cash though... You price a moderately optioned .2 4S and you're in 997 GT3 territory. At that point which one do you take...?

Your could have got a used 991 turbo for less than the new 4s.
