Default ABS pump failure

Noticed the brake pedal going mushy and then fluid level warning came on. Filled it up but the brake pedal feel never came back. Look under the carpet and it was a big mess of brake fluid.

We hoped it was the master cylinder, but ended up being the ABS pump 996-355-955-58 Leaking out one of the valves that isn't hooked up to anything.

Expensive replacement.

Ya, I got one from LA Dismantler, still not cheap though. I posted just for fyi to those that may have find them selves with a mushy pedal. As it doesn't seem like a very common part to have go on you.

It's also one of those parts that you send back the core and it gets rebuilt.

So put the replacement in but getting ABS error, not recognized. Anyone know what is required to mate the new pump to the ecu? Is this a trip to dealer for ecu programing?

I don't believe there is no ECU programming required.

Found this info, which seems to mean some ecu programing may have to be done.

https://rennlist.com/forums/996-turb...placing-2.html

My Bentleys manual said the pump unit needs to be coded to the correct transmission type (tiptronic or manual) after installation.
Is this possible with Durametric Professional?
My car being in storage and having nothing else to do I decided to try to answer your question about Duramteric pro. I went in my garage and plug a PST2 (I do have both , yes I'm a bit mental) and in fact in the ABS menu there is a coding section that ask you to input if it is a manual transmission or automatic….Took the PST2 off and plugged in the Durametric pro version 6. Sadly the only coding I could found was for the instrument cluster. In the ABS or PSM menu there was no possibility of selecting between manual or automatic transmission. I could be wrong but search without any success….
So back from the dealer, ABS was programed and ABS&PSM warn lights are fixed. Also the ABS pump has VIN coded on it. It only works with the original VIN didn't take my cars VIN.

No. I had a Motorsport 996Cup ABS installed.

Well my 2nd ABS pump has now started leaking out the valve under the black plastic tab.Not sure what to do here. What is this valve for and why is this unit failing on my car so often. Can I just get rid of abs I do not drive in the snow and it is mostly just driven on the track.

Just an update, under black cap the is a valve with a hole in it. I found a similar issue on 6speed https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ulic-unit.html
I plugged the hole and it stopped the leak. I was able to get brake working temporarily to drive to my indy but the feel is not how it should be. I imagine it also has allowed air in and will have to be bleed to remove the air pockets.

This may be obvious but I think all the track use is having a detrimental effect.

You can't really get rid of the ABS because it's responsible for brake bias.

I am thinking blocking the hole like the newer unit and bleeding the system might fix the issue.
Otherwise finding a used cheaper 996 abs unit and swapping the controller on to it.
They want 5k USD for a new unit with 2.3k core exchange. My controller is fine and total waste of money that they take a core and refurb it and then resell it on units that are defective.

Brake bias is a function of brake caliper piston sizes, rotor size, and brake pad friction, not ABS. ABS programming can have a different lock up threshold front and rear but does not control brake bias per se.

Had the same failure on my tracked ABS module. Was able to find a refurb from BBA for under 1k, however, the first two units they attempted to send me failed their tests. So still waiting....
