Speeding is illegal too and it kills far more people every year than street racing does but I bet each and every poster on this forum (including Dock) speeds every time they hop in their Turbo.

People will say "I'm responsible with my speeding". Ok fine, I'd reply with I'm responsible with any street racing I take part in. I'm not weaving in and out of traffic at triple digit speeds and I'm not doing it in close proximity to other vehicles or pedestrians. If somebody wants to do a quick pull on the highway and there isn't traffic, I'm game.

hard to find a topic on the internet about which most breaking the law crow about it as often or with as much impunity as this one..until something terrible happens. yet, this IS a porsche forum! and who among us bought this car for its "slow driving capabilities" and characteristics?!

still i'm in the "must be my age" camp but i have as much fun at 30 mph in this car as any here. at least around posted 15mph turns. is this "safe or legal"? debatable, and yet within the parameters set by the CA "basic speed law" which posits one must never drive faster than "it is safe".

the rest of this while debatable to some "minor" and varying degree? is no laughing matter. i agree, there are too many places to "exhibit speed" legally, and none are on the street. this car carries with it a greater degree of responsibility to OTHERS ( if not ones self ) that many do not. i say, have fun, but heed that.

When I drove my turbo I obeyed the speed limit mostly because the roads here are tight and Amish buggies are everywhere but also because I like having a clean driver license. I still own cars as fast or faster and will be buying another P-turbo are something along those lines. People are going to do what they like but all have to realize they could ruin the lives of others in an instance. In a few years most cars will be monitored continuously and speeding will get very expensive= that's my opinion.

Track it and don't pass others with big speed differentials, couple of things to consider if you find yourself speeding more often. Around here a track day costs less that a speeding ticket attorney to get you out of a "normal" ticket.
Lots of new cars have big HP and suspension capabilities really only safely explored on track. I had a lot of fun in my 16v Scirocco where if you were near the limit, you weren't going 300% of posted speed.

I agree with many in this thread. I won't say I've been challenged frequently, but it has happened and I've chosen to pass on these games. I've had extensive emergency and high speed driving training due to my work and have been in some hairy, high speed situations. Most have NOT had that training and, therefore, should be obeying the law. Speeds kills, especially in the wrong hands. I understand some may be sensitive and it's a bit of a touchy subject but...my two cents. Stay safe all!

So you think all moving vehicle violations are the same? Do you think that 1 MPH over the posted speed limit carries the same risk as 100 MPH over the posted speed limit? The laws certainly don't support that notion, as is evidenced by graduated penalties. For instance, in Orange county Florida, the fine for 6-9 MPH over the posted speed limit carries a fine of $129.00, while exceeding the posted speed limit by 30 MPH or greater requires a court appearance where the judge can assess a fine of up to $500.00. Attempting to draw an equivalence between speeding and street racing is in reality an argument fallacy called false equivalence.

But you can not also be responsible for the other driver you are racing against. It makes no difference how good you think you may be when you have no control over the driver you are racing.

There really is zero justification for street racing. How people defend it is beyond me. It doesn't make you cool, or macho, or studly, or showcase your mad skillz. All it does is endanger innocent people who have no interest in a couple of yahoos trying to out-bro each other.

Tracks are not hard to find. Driving a high powered, fast car with restraint on the street shows a lot more maturity than taking the bait from a knucklehead trying to flex.
