Default How is this OEM exaust connected?

I put on a set of new sports exhaust. I 've found a place that can spit polish the old exhausts like new. Since it is in one piece, the polisher says it might be awkward to use their machine.
I am wondering, how this middle part that looks like an accordion is connected. Is it a weld or is there some technique to separate both mufflers.
Thanks.

Well it took an hour to take the heat shields off. Most of the bolts were frozen,, had to use portable cooking butane can to heat and turn. The hexagonal allen in the back,, I had to use a grinder to cut off each side and use a vise grip.
These are going to the professional polishing shop. The main body, which is quite brown,, I am applying rust removal chemical over night and will start polishing my self.
As for the mid section, the accordion part ,, it is welded and the ribbed part seems to be a heat shield, that was put on before welding.

The ribbed portion is not a heatshield, but a flexible part of the exhaust so it can deal with the expansion/contraction of the engine and not crack. Not sure how much expansion there is at that point (not like other car makes with different engine configurations), but Porsche must have deemed it at least somewhat necessary.

A stupid question ?
How would the exhaust perform.. if I cut off the accordion and seal both sides with stainless steel plates.. making the exhaust in to two pieces.

The result ,,
Guy could not do all the nooks and crannies...
Elbow grease seems to be the best.
Cost USD 40,,,, just for the heat shields and the tip.

How long do you think it will look like that before needing polishing again?
