Joining our 996TT is a 1981 SC Targa. Just drove it from New Mexico home to Nashville, on all back roads, 1,600 miles. Super-fun car, especially with the top off.

Drove my Turbo today for the first time since picking up the SC and I've forgotten how amazingly solid and quick the 996 is.

Let's see how much I drive each one.

Congrats. I had an '89 Targa, my first Porsche. Enjoy every moment!

nice, most people seem to go the other way and get a newer 911.

I am guessing the 996TT feels like a modern numb car compared to the SC.

Goals, Im so jealous. I grew up in aircooled VWs and ever since I bought the 996 I've realized how much I need a type IV engine in my life. Congratulations.

Congrats! Fly out and drive home is the best. It is a trip you'll remember for the rest of your life.

Was joking around with a friend over the holiday because my wife wants to get rid of the Cayenne and replace it with a (gasp) Ford Explorer. The friend was saying "But you won't need to search for months or buy one halfway across the country and drive it home. You can just go down the street and buy one right now. Today. Where's the fun in that?"

Very nice, congrats!
I was looking at a '78 SC back in 2003, but thought the $12k asking price was a bit high... Boy do I feel like a dummy now

@GothingNC, Love the picture of your car rockin' the ducktale!

Funny that this came back up. The car has been super fun.

About to backdate it a bit with stripping the wheels and Targa bar to chrome finish and putting chrome headlight covers.

You'll enjoy it. Just keep the revs up.

I have a 1979 Targa. Coming up on 33 years of ownership. Engine has never been rebuilt at 214k miles, and only one clutch replacement. Pulls harder now than when I bought it because of the headers and dual out exhaust. I pulled it out of storage this past weekend and have been driving it this week.

Photo of mine is in post #21 of this link.

Thanks! What exhaust and headers do you have on the SC?

SSI headers with Dansk dual out exhaust. The SC's have always seemed to get more benefit from the equal length headers than other air cooled models. In fact, I used a Gtech Pro to document the speed differences before and after in a thread many years ago. About 0.4 second difference 0-60 if I recall.

The dual out Dansk is loud. It was perfect many years ago. I think my hearing is getting better as I get older.
