I am a recent purchaser. I drove a 997 C4S and did not like it. Did not like the way it drove, power or interior. Drove the 996TT and love at first sight on all points.

Cheers

The turbo, better value for what you get and more resale.
The turbo, tune and get even more power.
You passed on NA before too.
If I'd have bought another NA, I'd still want a turbo.

^^^well said. Spent a decent amount of $$ on cars when I should've bought a turbo from the start. Live and learn.

Man I really love mine. The question for me is, would it be worth upgrading my UMW Stage 2 car up to a new 991?

I faced a similar decision and decided on an 01 996 turbo an don't regret the decision. The 996 turbo has the race proven Mezger engine and you won't have to worry about the ticking IMS time bomb hanging over your head. The 996 turbo is a lot of car for the money and if desired can easily be upgraded for more power. Once you get used to the power of the 996 turbo on full boost there is no going back, a lot of car for the money.

The 997 has PASM as an option which I've never driven but judging by other active suspensions I've driven should be quite awesome. In a way though I like older suspensions better though, makes for a less artificial feel to the car, although clearly on track active is faster like day and night.

Well...went and test drove both cars. Hands down 996tt wins! This car is for sale at a high end used car small dealer. They said the car has been PPI and the German shop they took to said the car is clean in and out. It looks great! Test the car out and checked everything. I found two problems. The radio did not work which is an aftermarket Alpine and the spoiler warning kept blinking that it's malfunction. uhm...I thought this was PPI? Should I walk away or let them fix it? I worried there might be more issues. The car has 70K and under $45K.

I'm in no hurry to buy. Thank you all for your inputs.

Who did the PPI? What does the computer read for range 1&2? The spoiler will cost you about $2k FYI. And what shop is the seller?

Get your own PPI from a shop that is familiar with these/dealer.
Records on the car?
Deferred maintenance could add up if you need to start replacing water pump, PS reservoir, radiators, etc...

Totally this. A PPI commissioned by the seller, in clear conflict of interest, isn't worth the paper it's written on. Top PPI shops won't even talk to the seller until they've discussed everything privately with you.

seconded (or thirded) to get your own PPI with a DME readout. in the meantime call around to whatever servicing dealers / shops are on the Carfax and see if you can build a service history. at that age and mileage your deferred maintenance costs could be $8-10K or nearly zero which is a wide range.

Same here, despite the old adage "buy the newest Porsche you can afford." I have zero regrets going with the 996 Turbo, I have yet to meet one person (in real life) who has anything negative to say about the headlights or the interior. And that's before I take them for a spin!

997.1S is 355HP, and will be that way pretty much forever since there's simply no way to easily add significant power. And they're still depreciating.

That being said, you can buy a 996 Turbo with significantly lower than 75K miles for around $45K. As others have said, get your OWN PPI done, and look at a bunch of cars to build your knowledge base before making a decision.

Good Luck.
