Default Cayman GTS vs 996 Turbo driving experience

Any long standing 996 TT owners driven the latest Cayman GTS or switched to one (don't throw any rocks at me please)

I drove the Cayman GTS at the experience center in Atlanta. It is an excellent package. Handling is very neutral and it feels much lighter than it is. The motor sounds very beefy with the PSE.

I drive it on the circuit, where you do get it up to speed. The Boxster GTS was also a blast. We drove that on the slick track....steering via throttle was the goal. We also got to drive the Turbo S and GT3 back to back.

If you are close to that facility, you can do 1.5 hours in the GTS for under $400.

thx. would you switch for a Cayman GTS or Boxster GTS ? For me it's about the driving experience not the speed. I test drove a GT3 but it just seemed very large, it didn't make do it for me but racing seats in a GTS and maybe ...

They are completely different cars. I also have a 991 GT3, and that car is remarkable. If I had to chose between the turbo and the GT3, no question the GT3 everyday. The 991 chasis is large, but so is the Cayman GTS surprisingly. When you look at the Gt3 and the Cayman side by side, there is not a huge size difference.

For the Cayman Boxster, I still prefer my TT. They are wonderful cars, but much less useful daily....which is why I kept my 996TT (it's my daily driver).

You should go drive them though, as everyone's opinion and experience is different.

yes my TT is my daily driver too and has been for 14 years & it was a 991 GT3 I drove, the engine noise and exhaust on either GTS would seem to just enhance the overall daily driving experience but I need to go for a test drive

I have driven both and they are very different cars. The choice would come down to pure personal preference.

Yes, take a long test drive.

I would not get rid of the 996tt, but I would gladly add a GT4 to the garage. Completely different cars. I wonder though the next gen turbo Cayman GTS may feel more like a stock 996tt with exception that is will handle much better, lighter and be a lot more fuel efficient.

Maybe also more electronic and artificial though

It will definitely have updated electronics which will still be outdated in today's standards as well as electronic emergency brake. The steering is assisted not as raw feeling but it still has enough feel to get road feed back, so it isn't dead or artificial.
It will have a more advanced and amazing psm/traction control, and if still offered with a 6 speed manual it will have auto bleep switch to turn off the need for heel and toe. Let hope it keeps a 6 speed and not get that crap 7 speed tranny. PDK am I a sure will be amazing for the people who don't give a crap about having the full driving engagement you get with a manual car.

Yes I simply need to go and have a test drive but at the very least a GTS sounds truly fantastic with the sport exhaust

Call me a luddite but I just can't get excited about new porsches. Even a GT3RS, if I had that kind of money I think I'd rather throw another 100 grand on top and buy a 4.0. At every price point there's an older car on which I'd rather spend the same money.

Yes, it is a very very good sports car. It will be purely your personal preference if you want to make the switch.

I kinda agree wih you that' why I didn't buy the 991 GT3 or RS which I also looked at (as you need to track it) , however a GTS Boxster or Gayman, which I can further tune might just get me out of 996 TT seat. I need a PDK otherwise my wife might divorce me as she doesn't like driving my Ferraris
