Need assistance with H&R coilover install
Hi everyone,
so I'm having Street H&R coilovers installed on my 04 996tt because from what everyone told has been saying, the drop isn't huge. But the shop is saying that now the tires are rubbing and they are set at the highest possible clearance. One possibility is that the tires I have in the rear are 295/35/19 that that isn't THAT far off OEM specs. anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ok, gotcha I happen to be running 19's as well but 295/30/19 rear. I have 19x8.5 and 19x11. No issues at all. What widths and offset are the wheels? Are you sure the shop followed the instructions for adjusting the height of the spring perches? They need to measure from the center of the shock mounting bolt to the top of the lower spring perch (where the spring touches the perch). I will see if I can find the diagram and post it if needed.

Stock 295-30-18 is about 25" overall diameter, 295-30-19 is about 26", 295-35-19 is over 27"...I think the 295-35 might be your issue. I will find/post the diagram as well.
BTW, what size are you running up front? Our AWD system likes very close (if not the same overall diameter front to rear).

Three Wheelin'
I had to run 15mm spacers on the back of my turbo when switching over to 19's (997 wheels) to prevent the tire from rubbing on the inner fender liner. I was on H&R coilovers too.

I'm running 295/30/19 tires on my 03 996TT with H&R RSS coilovers. Perfect dropped stance and zero rubbing, but even with the 30-series tires I measured the clearances myself and had custom 10mm hub-centric/wheel-centric spacers made for my application.

Wheels were originally for a 997 Carrera non-turbo. Fronts were perfect, rear were inset too far. My final offset specs for the rear was custom and basically placed the wheels as far out as possible with no rubbing using 30-series tires. 35-series tires would require thinner spacers, however then with the width of the rear wheels you have to worry about the inside edge of the tires "sticking" to the wheel well liners when your suspension compresses. A fine line. I've had a ton of experience with suspension set-ups being a BMW shop owner.

Another slick way to gain more clearance on a wide rim is to go with slightly narrower tires. Many use 305 or 315 tires on 11" wide Porsche Turbo wheels. You might get away with that width on 18" rims, but it gets tougher on 19"+. A 295 tire is a perfect fit with 19"s on our 996 turbos.
