imho, during production runs of models, certain ones go down as iconic, I think the 996 tt is one of them , they just got it right, that will contribute to value and desireability. I think in the long term the 996 will become much more appreciated. I guess I like underdogs, owned the 348 , always foreshadowed by the 355, now the 348 is finally getting the credit for being the great car its always been. The 996 is still a little too new. And I don't think mods that make it a better car will detract from its value.

So you wouldn't disclose to a buyer that you were running a tune during your ownership?

nope and they wouldn't know it as it would be set back to stock with and no over revs because I have not had the red line increased.

I find that quite unethical

As these cars gain value it will be interesting to see how many "stock" ones are for sale by owners wanting top dollar. Keeping original parts in boxes to reinstall is pretty common with many performance cars. I'm sure it causes a few expensive cases of new owners getting the repair bill for a previous owners enjoyment. After a recent gearbox rebuild where many new hard parts were needed, I can appreciate the desire to understand a cars history as part of its valuation.

I've bought a couple cars just after an owner did expensive repairs and was afraid of another big bill so they wanted to move into a less expensive car to repair. In this case a cars value may be greater because some know items had been paid for already. Mileage is just part of a value.
