FWIW, I feel far safer on track than on the street...

Having a dedicated track car, trailered with a cage and all the safety equipment around me allows me to push harder. And every time I get on track, I accept the fact that **** happens and I may have to push it onto the trailer with either mechanical or body damage. And its not always up to me. I've spent thousands of laps out there, and on more than one occasion, I was sliding around in someone else's oil or coolant spilled in front of me. I was lucky those times not to hit a wall, but I was a passenger with nothing I could do. Worst incident I had was a 996 NA blowing his motor coming out of bishops years ago. He ended up catching fire on the front straight, but spilled oil all down the back of the track. I flew off the track at 100mph+ and somehow spun everywhere except into the walls. Luck was on my side and I accept that it could have been worse for the car that day. Now, would I take that chance in this low mileage 996tt? Not if I have another option in my garage.

[QUOTE=hyboost;12877728]My old man's shop specializes in BMW's so we know the cars inside and out. It just made sense as far as knowledge and relative cost for parts/upgrades.
As far as why the e30 m3 chassis, I was lucky to find for sale for a ridiculously low asking price. Car was in a non-running condition in a guys lawn for years with grass growing halfway up the car. We trailered it home, stripped it, caged and repainted and have been running and upgrading it piece by piece for almost 10 years now. Initially did a fully built 2.5L s14 motor, then did a euro M3 motor and finally people figured out the electronics for the s54 so we went that route. The only thing really left original to e30m3 is the body. Everything else is upgraded, in most cases out of later generation M3's...thus the Frankenstein. It is an incredibly well balanced car, great to drive at or past the limits and you can really tell that BMW built these cars to race back in the day.
Pics of some of the progression of the car over the years.
When we got it to the shop after purchase, before strip-down...
After paint in 2006 when it still sort of resembled a street car...
Winterfest 2008, surrounded by fast Porsches...
Graphics done in 2008, copying the DTM Diebels Alt race car theme...
Back at Sebring next to my dad's e36m3 and another one he helped to build with the red hood...

As the guy with the red hood, you are a wimp for not tracking the 996

Nice wheels and nice car.

Are those 19's or 20's? ADV1 makes some very sharp looking wheels, looks great!
I took my TT to Das Renn Treffen (event was excellent BTW) yesterday in South Miami, there were a few cars with ADV1's...real nice finishes and offsets were on the money.

Wheels are 19's (Front 19x8.5, Rear 19x11). The car is on H&R springs. Nothing too aggressive on the drop. Will eventually go with coilovers but it sits ok for now.

Well, just as long as we don't see you driving that beautiful museum piece above 50 mph, I guess it's alright.
God help you if you do any more mods to it though - you'll be tarred and feathered for sure.
(psst- BTW, the wheels look great!)

Saw your pics on Instagram! Also saw that you were once, owner of one really good looking Silverstone II M5 E60. I was owner of one aswell back then, spent my days on M5board.
Wheels look perfect, I want those!!
