Man, that's a crappy buyer, better you didn't sell it to him, never hear the end of it....
I once sold a mustang to a guy years ago, kept calling and stopping by for about two years for "warranty work", every little creak or groan.
Rick, that cars been flashed, typical ecu report with a bumped redline. Not terribly alarming IMO.

Point of the matter is its a flipping used car and WILL have problems, low mileage, high mileage ppi or no ppi.

Do whatever makes you feel it's worth the risk. I bought my 996 site unseen with no ppi lol! Although I did have an independent look at the car and talked to the shop that normally services it. Bought it with lower mileage and now I've almost doubled it and it's been an awesome car. In fact with the most recent "buyer". We him haw around on price, mods, logs, talk to tuner etc. then agree on price, plan on ppi, wait on ppi because they ll come see it, then take it to shop to get ppi, get antsy the shop can't do it until the next day, leave my car overnight, then financing falls through assures me to get the ppi done, late night email telling me to hold off, then disappear. Then later reappear with a car he purchased the day the "financing" fell through.

What an exercise!!! Probably going to keep it after all.
man stilov thats a bunch of B w/ capital S. i wouldn't put up with that sh*t for 40k if my life depended upon it. sorry you even exposed yourself to the market like that. is this sale discretionary? or necessary?! none of my business, sorry...

but i did the same thing on tt #2. bought it after a 5 minute drive on mulholland with a known seller and friend and needed to replace a maf is all, for all its track life LOL

132k miles, still counting and still runs like a bat outa hell. 102 degrees today 1.3 bar, no problems.

you're gonna keep it because no one is gonna give you what it's worth and because you know you can't replace the fun quotient moving laterally into something else.

unless of course, the few bucks was going into something worthwhile like kids or something. keep the fkn thing. only you and us diehards appreciate what all you've done to it. or sell, really slowly until "the" buyer comes along.

fk everyone else. don't let them even sit in it.

Would that explain both the range 1s and 2s?

1500 type 2 ignitions is like 5 seconds I believe. Generally, you'd like to see about 25-50 hrs since the episode in question.

Ya...crazy right?

I have the boxster back on the road again, so I'm driving that but still drove the TT to work twice this week. I love it. I stopped bumping the for sale ads and have relinquished to the fact that I'll be keeping it, which is a GOOD THING!!!

you've given me great advice, and so mine is to concur with your decision to keep it. it's not easily replaceable! so congrats on a wise decision.

as a matter of fact, to hear others tell "it", i'm known as a generally decent and thoughtful person, who is very generous with their time, acumen, as well as resources.

in fact, i mentor others, as well. just not regarding my hobbies and/or "here" lol. but thank you

Question:
how can i find out, on my own, if my car has been through overrevs

i have worked a lot on old american cars but nothing modern, so a complete noob

i hear talk of it being recorded on the "ecu" - i am assuming i need an OBD reader or some other diagnostic tool to offload this info from the computer's memory? - do you know what tool? - or how to do it? - i did some searching but didn't find much that was helpful for diy on getting this info

thanks

and the answer is:

2955 type 2 overrevs (some time ago...over 100 hours)

i have read a bunch of threads and still don't quite know how to apply the math

can someone tell me how much time that equates to?
