Default Intro

Hi all. New to the 996TT scene and thought I'd introduce myself. I've had lots of air-cooled Porsches over the last 30+ years but this is my first foray into "water-world". It's a 2003, Guards Red over natural brown leather coupe. 6-speed, X-50. The gentleman I bought it from special ordered it and rarely drove it. It was delivered to me in April with 5400 miles and is truly like new. Safe to say it's the nicest car I've ever owned and was a bit unnerved the first few times out. Other that changing the oil (which was way easier than a 911 or 930) I haven't done much to it. I did have a clear bra installed and I really need to replace the original(!!) Pirelli P-Zeros. Leaning toward the Bridgestone SO-2As.

Thanks for all of the good information here. I don't have a lot of pictures but here's one from the previous owner I liked and one as it was coming off the transport.

Happy Motoring!

John

Wow. Absolutely fantastic looking car, one of my favorite color combinations. Wish I could have afforded this nice of an example when I was in the market. Must have run more than higher mileage 997tt. Any info as to why you decided to go 996 instead of 997 just for curiosity's sake? More pictures of the interior would be appreciated!

I agree the color combo. It is what I will be looking for when I make the step up from my C4. Congrats on the beautiful car ( don't know if "car" does it justice)

5,400 miles? Poor thing, being kept like that all these years. Congrats on the purchase though, it's beautiful. Where in NY are you? Hopefully there are some roads that don't completely suck nearby.

Very nice low mileage example. Take care of it they are getting harder to find in this condition. Enjoy it.

Thanks. Yeah, I probably paid a premium for it. Figured I would rather have a really nice 996 than a lesser condition 997 for the same money. Interestingly, what seemed like a premium in April looks to be more mainstream for nice, low-mileage cars in August. The color combo was a significant factor. I didn't realize red wasn't that common in the 996 era. This is the 4th red 911 I've owned ('66, '70, '74) and I thought I was through with red cars...

It came from the Hudson River Valley area of NY. The original owner complained of the roads which was part of him not driving it much. I live in Wyoming and although the driving season is pretty short and we always worry about hail in the summer, the roads are generally pretty good. Sand and gravel are ever present hence the clear bra.

It's a very different driving experience than the older air-cooled stuff I'm used to. Smooth, comfortable, quiet and startlingly fast (to me) even in stock form.
