Porsche hierarchy

Ha, wish it was that easy. I'm on the fence to full cage the 996TT or start over. Wife doesn't like the extra payments for a new Porsche since we just got a new tow rig.
Sorry for the derail, let's see some new hierarchies!

Lots of number 1's as far as I'm concerned. Ranking Porsche's is like ranking a shotgun, rifle, or fly reel. It depends on whether I'm duck hunting, deer hunting, or fishing.
For track duty I rank the GT3 number 1.
Long cross country touring, turbo or turboS.
A trip through back country roads I would take a Cayman GTS.
I would not include a GT4 on the list as a number 1 at all...at least not now. The potential is there, no argument. But it was just introduced. Let them get a few winning races behind them first. This would be like putting a promising rookie in the hall of fame before they play the first game; purely based on potential and press.

Lots of unique parts to the car from Weissach...one could argue more unique than the everyday run of the mill 911/s/turbo(s).
With price not being the motivating factor in the list, I think you could put the GT4 just after the Gt3, turbo s and turbo- but above the 911 GTS/s/base. Just IMO of course.

I wouldn't say it's "just a cayman".

I like how my 944 is light and nimble but that doesn't beat the thrill of the boost from my 996TT.

This is a funny thread. The GT4 is somewhat of a mutt, so really hard to place. It has great GT bits for suspension and brakes, but no dry sump motor, de tuned no less. I'd still put it on par with a 911 C4, not quite GTS. ITs also so subjective. If you are older or less mobile, all the four doors move to the top of the list. As for the GT line over the turbo, you just need to drive both hard and you'll see why. Not even considering the depreciation, the overall feel of the GT cars is another level.
My comments on the GT4 are perceptive only. Driving it may (probably) jump it up higher on the list.

Nordschleife Master
2. I spent and continue to spend a lot of time working on it with my Father which has a value beyond any car.
3. It is also the car that I learned my Profession. (Mechanics)
4. When it actually runs its faster then my 996TT but to be fair my 996TT only has a 1bar tune/exhaust so maybe 120mph trap speed.
5. The car is built around what I want and what I like. So, I guess it stands to reason that if its built with my own interest in mind its going to be loved by me but someone else might really hate it.

I've been puzzled by some peoples' notion that the 996 GT3 ranks higher than the 996 Turbo. I don't see it. Also, I'd rank the Boxster above the Cayman, as they are mechanically identical, but I've always liked the option of top up or top down. Some people have silly notions about Boxsters and think Caymans are wonderful. When I talk with people raving about Caymans, I just say: 'they're okay, I only wish they made a convertible version.'
I liked the TT's as daily drivers, but it took modifying the suspension to get them close to the handling capability of the GT3 and Boxster. For me, handling, and visceral driving sensation matters most. For others, such things as violent acceleration or comfortable daily driver matters most and for them the 996 TT would rank higher.

I am not going to get into the discussion other than to say its easy to make a list as Porsche has done it for us by exclusivity. That can be argued also but most lists are plainly personal opinions.

Best parallel I can think of is the Audi TT (Boxster/cayman) and the Audi R8 (Turbo). One is a sports car, the other is a supercar, it's just that the turbo doesn't have the aggressive looks of the R8.

944S2 is a fine car. I rented one for an entire weekend and drove it through the hills near Malibu. I thought about one or a 968 cab at one point. But I'm curious if we're talking stock vehicles, how your 944s2 is faster than your 996TT? Sounds fishy, Fishey.
