year and differences
hi there - I am searching for a turbo, currently have a C2.
can some one kindly do me a quick bullet point summary of the differences between each year?
eg, I think there were some improvements from 2002 compared to the 2001 model,
I want to work out the oldest year to avoid
thanks

You will get a few different opinions but most will agree buy the newest best example that your budget allows. That said I prefer the 2001 with the updated hollow wheels and no bumper warts as I love the no glove box look of the dash and do not buy into the structural difference= but that's a whole other debate lol. Bottom line they are a great car in general and probably the best sports car buy available for the money.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_996 Yes read and also read some past posts from the discount buyers and all the problems they have= you will get a more honest view point. You get what you pay for more often then not.

They are all basically the same.
The 2001 had no glove-box and slightly different A/C Vents.
You can add a 2002-2003 dash into a 2001 car without problem if you want to go through the effort as they have identical structures other then the below notation.
They also changed the seat-belt support which isn't likely to effect you in any major way unless of course your in an accident.

They also stiffened the chassis from 2002 onwards.

^ And you bust on me for not having my windows tinted= what do you keep in there your extra air fresheners and breath mints lol. Just kidding with you buddy. Honestly with the door pockets and center console what good is the glove box unless you daily drive? I keep insurance card and registration that's it but of course mine is occasional use only lol. .

If you consider the seat-belt tensioner mounting bar a chassis stiffening design then maybe but given its location its pretty much not a stressed member during normal use.
The 01 and 02 chassis are identical except for this small difference.
Also, my 2001 has a glovebox and an original dash that doesn't have a glovebox. lol.
