one last thought. jumper. your example given as if it were analogous to porsche stating their mk1 to mk2 changes were little more than 'Marketing 101" is so beyond the pale of what porsche would do, IN SPITE of your example, that i am literally ( and rarely ) at a loss as to how to explain to you the near impossibility of that being so, if not the unlikeliness.

you're one of the smart ones here, also unlike many. i am surprised you'd attempt that analogy. it is specious and weak, even if your example given is fact.

they are NOT analogous, in any way other than they are references to info, "purportedly" profferred by porsche.

this place needs a critical thinking lesson. not you, sir. just this "place".

Very interested to see what you come up with. As I said previously I definitely felt a big difference even before I read about any info on any changes.
I spoke to a Porsche tech and he also confirmed there were changes made.

So, we decided not to be lazy and just go look at the damn cars of which it took 3 seconds to figure out.

Fishey's 06/00 MY2001

Volvo4Life's MY2003

The most interesting thing is not only the additional bar but the seem sealer used on the 2003 vs the spot welding of the 2001 panel. Also, my car is color matched, his is not as it has some completely different coating and color maybe a rust inhibitor coating? no idea.

That being said on a side note I am going to look at an early carrera car at some point and post up what it looks like in that area.

My example was not to draw an analogy. I think from the start that I've said I thought it was always based off mk1 - mk2 (996) changes and the 01 turbo doesn't fall under as a mk1. My example was just one way Porsche can twist perception to make something look better. I think your mis-lead thinking they are comparing the 02 Turbo to a 01 Turbo. I think instead of saying 4% torsionally more and 32% more Flexural rigidity that the marketing guys thought 25% sounded better. 01 Turbo marketing was definitely compared to 993 model where as 02 marketing was directly comparing mk1 996 to the mk2.

Behind drivers seat, Where the floor pan meets the Rear Seat. So Basically under the front part of the rear seat.

Takes about 20 seconds to pull carpet back and look.

The black bar at the top of my photos runs the length of the rear axel, it is not present in the MY01 photos.

It's located directly under the rear seats beneath the carpet and forms the edge of the seat and the footwell

those are all semantical distinctions that can easily be described as "nitpicking" which you alluded to earlier when you asked "why"? but yes, the lit suggests the differences exist btw the 01 and 02 TURBO's. whether or not they do? i dont know. thankfully we have guys here willing to roll back their carpets and let the sun shine in on this topic.

but I'm too busy watching 10 knuckleheads on tv to even attempt to debate this further. but i will say thanks guys for the pics.

very telling.

Here is fuel to the fire.

It seems not all MY2001s are the same.

Here are pictures of my 2001 Turbo. My car has the extra plating on the top of the front edge of the rear seat and the extra strengthing tube too.
