Default Radiators time

Ever since I cleaned out the side radiators since then my car have always have a faint scents of coolant. Never have any problem with heating, but it has to be fix. So I place order for CSF aluminum units. For those who done it, What other hoses can I swap out while I'm on this job?

Had all 3 radiators replaced in my 2003 Turbo last January with 130K miles on the car. All the hoses were fine and not one was replaced.

'course, you can swap out whatever hoses you want. I doubt you'll find any bad but if you do then obviously the bad ones get replaced.

In the past with other cars the word experienced techs gave me was if one hose was bad then all should be replaced. Nowadays though with these cars that is a lot of hoses, make that a lot of expensive hoses, and not a small amount of labor too.

Not only are the original hoses in my 2003 Turbo just fine so too are the hoses in my 2002 Boxster now with 292K miles on them.

'course, unlike some owners I do have the coolant drained and replaced with fresh every 4 years or so.

Thanks for opting to use our radiators!

Let me know if you need any help along the way.

I replaced all the hoses. They are not expensive, and if one let loose after I buttoned the car back up, I would be seriously annoyed with myself. A couple were hard to find - had to wait for a shipment from Germany

I did this several months ago and decided to replace all radiator hoses in the process. The new hoses have improvements made into the metal ends to help keep the hoses secured in the radiators (I was not aware these improvements prior to receiving them). I was also surprised to see how much softer and more pliable the new hoses were. You may also consider replacing the rubber dampers that help secure the radiators in place on the brackets as they tend to harden and have a bit of play in them.

I would replace also especially if the car has higher miles.

Well, I had thought when I had the Boxster in for a new coolant tank after around 250K miles that would qualify for higher miles but the tech told me the hoses are very good quality and last a long time.

I decided to leave then in service. Several years later and nearly another 50K miles and the hoses are still fine.

The same with the Turbo. When the car -- with 130K miles -- was in for the new radiators the tech was not at all concerned about the hoses.

At other services before and since then not once has a tech suggested I have the hoses replaced. They tell me hose life is exceptional.

However, given the miles on the Boxster with the Boxster at some point soon when the coolant is replaced I'll have the hoses all renewed.

And even though the Turbo has fewer miles at some point the same with the Turbo. At its next coolant drain/refill I'll have the hoses replaced.

I totally see where your coming from Macster but the hoses on these cars are hard to get to and then you have time and costs of coolant/bleeding= I would replace all of mine if replacing radiators and I have very low miles. On my other conventional front engine cars/trucks I would give them a feel/visual check and use my best judgment= much easier to replace. Its a personal call.

While the hoses are high quality the tech more likely wasn't looking forward to the task ahead and thought better left alone...

Wait. I thought all Porsche techs, at least those at the dealer, were supposed to use any and every excuse to work on the car? You know to keep that "stealer" classification current.

There's easy jobs and there's pain in the a$$ jobs. My 993 has a slow AC leak which I've just been recharging each summer. I'm fairly certain it's coming from the evaporator which is a pain in the neck to replace. As a mechanic told me, he'd much rather refill with refrigerant than dive into evap replacement on a 993 even though that job would be a fat bill for him.

Got the radiators in but no new hoses yet. It was very straight forward job. Replacing the four hoses would be easily done too but I don't want to wait another week. Best of all, no more coolant smell.

Good to hear, shouldn't have to worry about leaks again.
