Since I'm going the insurance deductible rate anyway, it's a no brainier to go with factory glass. Now if my wife's Toyota needs new glass going cheap is a no brainer, glass will probably be recalled anyway.

I just shelled out $120,000 for the dual clutch in my wife's Bugatti veyron. That's why she gets cheap windshield.

Disclaimer : my wife does not own a Bugatti, but holy cow I just saw the maintenance costs on that car. Now I know why athletes and rappers go broke.

just got it completed. they forgot to order the porsche moulding so i had to wait another week. they were going to charge me an additional $80 for it. i said not my problem, they were cool with it and charged me extra $3. so far so good. waiting for a downpour to go drive in, to see if there are any leaks.

Yesterday I had my 14 year old windshield replaced at the dealer with OEM.
The old glass had lots of pitting but the crack I made installing the defroster trim was the last straw.
I used a plastic trim removal tool to lightly press against the glass to hold the center piece trim while the epoxy sets (I broke off the snaps when I removed the center piece). That small amount of pressure on this soft glass made a crack and I was shocked!
However, this gave me a reason to replace and the new glass is a huge improvement!
It cost about $950 out the door with my PCA discount.

really leaning toward that route myself. methinks paolin got seriously lucky. i also believe those things need to sit overnight and "cure" after install and i don't need a rush job with later issues. though have been told by folks here and the other site that a cheaper option will work just fine. i just can't imagine the guy with the glass truck showing up and two hours later it's good to go. maybe i'm wrong, but this is one of the few items that oem is really the way to go.. and i need to do something. my screen is beginning to look like a prism in certain hi glare conditions lol

I've been very disappointed with the OEM windshield durability. I had a small stone chip that turned into a significant crack in a matter of minutes. I've managed to stop it with a crack repair kit but it bugs the heck out of me every time I see it. When I replace it I'm definitely going with the Safelite route - at that price point it seems like a no brainer. I've replaced other vehicles windshields with Safelite products and they seem perfectly clear and as durable as anything else.

exactly what happened to me, though i waited awhile before attempting the epoxy fill which ( to its credit ) worked and had held for some time, but no more. it's gotta go.

safelite in los angeles metro wouldn't touch mine and i went directly to a larger install shop affiliated with them. very strange. may try one more time or i'll wander meekly into the local porsche dealership and bite it.

I would only use Safelite if they had Porsche 996 installation experience. Their quote was only 100 less than the dealer.
I did use Safelite a while back on an Audi A4 and they did fine.

Agree. Many still act as if it were once a $130k+ car. Oh wait.
