Default help me identify the issue

Just started today. A higher pitched whine... Pretty sure someone will be able to identify it in 30 seconds or less... belt pulley, power steering?... i have no clue. I can't tell exactly where its coming from but I took the vid from where I thought the sound was coming from.

Goes away after the car stays at idle for a bit... Comes back when I rev. Nothing has changed with how the car drives, no lights on dash.

here is the link:

I am not a mechanic but that sounds like much more than a loose belt. maybe an alternator bearing completely shot...that is my guess.

If the car is equipped with a manual does the noise go away when you fully depress the clutch pedal then release it?

If so the noise can be due to a high pressure relief valve in the power steering tank that squeals.

How is the power steering fluid level? Ok? Other vital fluid levels ok?

The noise doesn't sound like a squeal I remember from my car though. The squeal I remember was a rate high pitched purer sound.

The noise in the clip sounds more like a bearing.

My WAG is the noise is probably a bad idler/tensioner roller bearing. I've had to replace these twice now in my 2003 Turbo.

Ain't going to go away on its on or fix itself, so you can are going to have to either ID the source of the noise yourself or have a pro Porsche tech do the ID'ing.

^thanks I'll check those! but I'm getting the feeling that its power steering related. I'll check fluid levels and and see if it does it with the clutch in.

found another clip with the same sound, claims power steering res is bad.

.....and...so its an empty power steering reservoir..... so thats the cause of the sound.... now what the cause of the missing fluid?? arg

... i guess I'll be updating my "Annual Maintenance Cost" Poll selection.

Did you open your front trunk and see if the clutch reservoir is empty and leaking?

If so, classic Slave cylinder failure.

REPLACE BOTH the Slave and Accumulator together..

slave is 600 and several hours of labor. trans needs to be lowered, not fully dropped.

ive never had to r*r a master. but it's the slave that tends to fail.

Might as well put a new accumulator in while at it unless you have records of it being done recently. I figured that the pump was empty/bad tank.
