The great thing about buying a different steering wheel is you can always replace your OEM unit if you decide to sell the car. That way you can enjoy an improved driving experience and still sell a "stock 996 Turbo" (after you install the OEM steering wheel) when that time comes.

Agree again but I'm leaving things alone on this one but do realize at some point the next owner will do whatever lol. The car is really nice inside and almost as nice outside and am trying to keep it that way. When you change out things they never go back the same= just an opinion/observation over the years.

The factory wheel was too big for me, always bumping my hand into my leg or doing shuffle steering at the track doing a hard turn. So I installed a DCTMS and added a steering wheel extension too.
I am 6'3" and the steering wheel position never felt comfortable/natural until I made the swap.

Tell me more about the extension please

The FVD Daytona GT steering wheel I have comes with a hub that allows the steering wheel to attach to the steering rod spline. The new hub adds about 1/2 inch to the length versus OEM (placing the steering wheel that distance further away from the spline versus OEM).
Given that the steering wheel telescopes, and that I prefer the steering wheel further away from me (given my arm length), I wasn't interested in any hub extension as the smaller diameter alone fixed my leg clearance issue, and the telescoping feature allows me to place the steering wheel where I need it for my arm length using something less than full telescoping extension.

I'm 6'4 and with this RAID/RUF combo I've got lots of room now. I've also installed a set of 997 GT3 seats....The combo makes for a great driving position!

Here's a picture of the leg clearance I now have with my 340mm steering wheel. There's a fold in my jeans sticking up that makes the leg-to-steering wheel clearance look less than what it actually is.

i wonder if the "ruf" branded raid wheel is any more expensive than the non branded raid wheel.
i was shocked at how relatively inexpensive the raid wheel was even coming to me from europe.

The simple answer is yes. But For me it was worth the expense, but I have a crow like nature (shiny stuff).
I would only deal with someone from a vendor who understands what the policies are regarding airbag shipment- Al and I went through a nightmare when he shipped it from the US to Canada. An expensive nightmare.

Dock-
I can dig it re: seats. The outfit that installed mine (9 hours in labor charges) didn't bother to hook up the power recline, so in the brief time I had it on the road this leave, it was not what I had hoped for.
That being said, I can tell you that I legged it out on a five hour round trip and was pretty happy overall. I imagine it will be even better when I can actually adjust them. The corners. Oh my. As in all things, there is an opportunity cost (comfort/adjustability) in our choices....But what a difference these seats make in hard driving. Woohoo!

understood, and agree. gert at carnewal ships the airbag wheel via fedex internationally on a regular basis and it was a simple customs declaration. i would imagine it could easily be more "complicated" private party.
shiny stuff lol. got it.
