i just get the kit. savings or higher cost is negligible, delivered to the door. just make em give ya 5/40 m1 if you go that route. oils filters crush washers all in. like 117?

Agree with Dock that temperature has no impact on oil drain other then how fast it comes out. I let mine sit for 24hr or more so everything gets drained down, I do mine flat without jacking etc.

On the topic of hot oil IMO the scalding risk is low as long as one is wearing any glove more substantial than just latex. I got drenched in oil and it was all lovely and warm. Literally soaked in the stuff as my column drain wasn't close enough to the oil reservoir.

Given that it hosed out 6 quarts in less than 10 seconds all I could do was wait it out and go get the kitty littah. My mother laughed her *** off about it when I spoke to her today.

I'm swapping out almost exactly 8 quarts of oil with it horizontal and empty to dripping.

WRT cost I just bought a couple of bags of washers from pelican and half a dozen mahle filters so all I have to do is buy a couple more cases of dt40 and I'm good to go for the next few thousand miles (on the oil change front at least).

The last thing is I want a better supply of the small oil gasket (the 10x2 one) as 10$ a go is money I could be sending to Africa to feed starving children. Anyone found a good supply of them for less than the price of a small diamond?

Default O rings

I get the small O rings 10 mm ID and 14 mm OD at O'Reillys for 59 cents apiece. Just do a search on their web site.

Are they the same quality as the Porsche o-ring?

That would be my concern as not all O-rings are of the same quality= I would guess as usual you would get what you paid for. I do not care about cost as much as quality.

Right, the compounds used matter. For example, the use of an o-ring made with EPDM would not be appropriate for applications where the o-ring is exposed to oil. This type of compound is used in o-rings used in brake systems.

See the link below for more information on rubber compounds and their areas of usage.

Come on folks how much do you really think it takes to make an O ring no matter what the quality?

Below are the specs from National who make the O ring. I think sometimes we get far to **** about
about having just the right part, just look and any search under oil filters in this forum.

If ya'all want to pay $10 for something that cost pennies to make go for it. BTW most companies that sell oil filters for other cars that require O rings just throw them in.
