Default What's this noise?

After driving from work, I sat in the garage for about a minute idling to cool the turbos, when I heard noise coming from the engine.

Could this be power steering pump? Turbos? Rollers (belt)? SAI pump? Something else?

What do you guys think? Today was the first time I heard it.

Cheers,
-K

Thanks, Jpflip. I just went and checked. The engine is still warm, so I cannot really check now. But, I checked and it was below the "cold" mark and I am guessing I am low. I will check in the morning when engine will be cold. Repair manual says to start engine and run for approx 20 secs and then check the level.

I will report what I find.

Thanks again...

At the same time take a look at the clutch level reservoir to see if it is not overfilled….Under the bonnet left side under the plastic cover….

Checked the level this morning. It was low and I added a bit to bring it up to the mark just under the "cold" text. I also checked the reservoir in the front and its level was fine.

I drove the car to work today and there was no noise. I will keep an ear on it and if it comes back, I will update here.

Thanks a lot, guys!!

Cheers,

Thanks for posting this; I had the same thing happen to me yesterday on mine driving back from work. I was going to record it too. I hear it on the right side of the engine bay, by the oil cap, exact same noise. I will check the steering pump reservoir level. What brand of fluid did you use?
thanks J.P.

Just to add to 02996ttx50 answer a little bit of information. The Pentosin CHF11 (previously recommended) is sometimes difficult to found but it is compatible with Pentosin CHF202 which now supersede the CHF11….

Thanks. IF it's low, should I just top it up to the right level with either?
I don't know what's in there to start with so wondering if it's OK just to add to existing fluid.

Just top it up with the compatible Pentosin.

I used the Pentosin CHF11S. Found it at local Advanced Auto Parts. Just add slowly a little at a time.

"out here" the 202 has pretty much superseded the 11s. at least thats what i find. it can also be gotten from any m benz dealership. either is fine, same stuff.
although in technical terms jp is actually correct lol with his mention of the ch11s. so, what else might be new!?
