Question Speakers Did not work... Now they do ??

In my 2003 996 TT - I have a modified (Aux input jack added) CDR-023 Radio. Never had a days problem with the radio, this morning I start the car up, radio comes on then the sound dies. The radio continued to work, i could see the different songs coming up on the text display, just absolutely no sound. (I tested everything - Including making sure i had not inadvertently pressed the mute button) Anyway - I had a meeting to get to so I stopped messing with it and went to my meeting.

After an hour or so I climbed back in the car.... the sound came back! so now all looks good!

Anyone else ever had this happen to them? Any idea what it could be? Electronics don't simply fix themselves.

Yes, I have had speakers cut out and return on me. I do not worry about it much. I believe it has something to do with amp, or amps, not switching on.

I would.try flipping/reinserting the fuses .. I think its d8&d9 if I'm identifying them correctly. Just look in the booklet in the fuse area to find the two fuses for amp and radio and try swapping them. I have a loose connection. Or something is funky but a fuse swap seems to have cured a similar issue.
The radio/cdr23 would appear to be on but no sound. Fuse swap and its all bad music all the time again. Gl w it

Yea no problem, I think porsche designed it that way, it is supposed to do that. I have the same feature in the cayenne as well as the 996. I wonder why the other cars I have don't have that feature?

You have the infamous MOST system which is fiber optically linked between the head and amp. I'd suspect a problem at either end or middle somewhere. Good luck!

When my 2003 Turbo manifested the silent but apparently functioning radio that would fix itself after the engine was shut off a while shortly after this behavior first appeared the battery up and died.

I have had some success with cleaning the fiber optic connections at the radio and amplifier. It seems they may get dirty over time.

I just unplugged the connectors and cleaned them with a Q-Tip and isopropyl alcohol. It is worth a try, since I believe that the optic connections don't have any dust seal.
