Thanks guys. I'm not looking to rehash the debate on pinning vs welding.

Just wanted to know if anyone thought it wasn't needed.

I'll see about getting it done when I get my clutch done.

Thanks!

pinning pipes cost is $3500 in this area - Seattle
However, it is all the "while you are in there" things that add up

i'm one who doesn't think it's "needed" and yet fully understand any track that won't allow unpinned/welded to race that track. seems prudent given what we "know".

my car has been to willow countless times, always driven HARD ( canyon/hillclimber dedicated car now ) has 125k on er, and if the time ever comes? i'm gonna just jb weld em. i have faith in that nasty stuff, moreso than that oem "glue/epoxy" whatever. but having said all that a cpl buds and i were taking a leisurely run up an 80 mph canyon and his x50 car puked the coolant everywhere, not even under full steam, so it's all a crap shoot and no one really knows if/when your number will come up. sucks, but i'm STILL not doing it as a preventative, unless engine out and MAJOR stuff needs attention. thats just me.

I would also wait until you needed a clutch or had some other sort of reason to pay for the labor. I wouldn't just do it to do it unless your track regulates it. I'm doing mine because my engine is out, not because I was overly concerned about the possibility.

i think thats a wise approach though some say ( "ya gotta do it! its only a matter of time etc. ) i'm not in that camp at all. so although i didn't bother with it ( though it occurred to me of course ) since last time i was close enough i was dropping serious ( to me! ) coin on a trans refresh and new clutch, plus whatever incidentals at the time. was kinda strange to see my buddies go lout for seemingly no reason! they just... went! but i say.. "what? me worry!?"

plus i was leading up the mtn, can't say what effect having coolant sprayed all over my windscreen might've had

My car has low miles and I haven't done the pinning which is what I would do if ever wanted/needed. I will not do it unless the motor is out or one looks to be coming out or fails. If I sell I will not drop the price or pay to have it done just because of the possibility. This subject is up there with oil and has a lot of strong opinions.

I am in the same boat, my club does require pinning or running water. I run water. I think there's about the same chance that the coolant fitting lets go as a tire blowout. My car is 14 years old and never had it happen to it. I don't really think it's a matter a time thing, they probably in there hard and take a lot of effort to get them off.

I think any adhesive has a "life span". Factory should have threaded these in instead of just bonding them into place. Seems silly if you ask me.

Actually its h2o and water wetter, water is better for cooling then coolant. The coolant is to prevent freezing and doesn't increase the cooling capability. All race cars run water wetter and not coolant as coolant is banned.

Imagine all the houses that have plastic pipes for water and sewage all springing leaks when the adhesive life span is up. What a mess that's going to be.

I also thought that coolant had properties that were less evaporative in high heat situations?

Indeed, after the leisurely run, my "while your in there" added up to an incredible $17,500. However, I went the weld route as I have a talented welder. There was also a long list of goodies that included a 997 cup car PMNA LSD and the super badass 964 lwfw/764pp/GT3RS 4.0l disk clutch set-up.
