Default Bad day in Kansas

So I blew a coolant hose or waterpump on the freeway heading back home to Chicago. Water comes ou back of engine center. Won't hold coolant spills right to the ground. Getting a tow to the dealer in Wichita, Kansas. Any ideas what is dead center back? Happened during a turbo boost. Ugh.

Sounds like the water pump or the hose that attaches to it. It's located at the very rear of the motor and left of center. It'll cost you about $1000 at an independent mechanic.

Bearing in mind that the front of the motor is at the back of the car, are we actually talking about the front or back of the motor?

A large blow out like that is almost always a hose. If you are really unlucky it might be a coolant pipe that let loose, but let's not go there yet.

Years ago hit some road debris on 50 west of Strong City KS. Had my Boxster towed to Wichita dealer. Dealer took good care of me. Gave me a free loaner to use the two days I was there.

I think I was suspected of being a "Porsche Secret Shopper" cause I was asked if I was. I said I was not but I should have said I can't answer that...

Anyhow, give a Sargent Major's walk around the dealer and greet everyone and note everyone's name. Write the names down in a small wire bound notebook.

I think you be treated very well there.

Oh, my Boxster was repaired and I was on my way west and had no problems at all.

Happened to me. It was the coolant hose coming out of the pump. Luckily it happened in my driveway. I replaced both hoses and flushed the coolant. The hoses from ECS tuning were approximately $30 each. Obviously for you this maybe difficult for you to repair yourself.

Good luck

Well thanks for all the kind words. Tow truck just dropped her off at the Porsche dealer. Checked into a hotel a mile down the road. Now we wait....

I hope that it's not the top center coolant fitting failure. If it's on top center, there are four fittings than can come undone.

They require a engine drop to fix them. Do a search on welding or pinning the coolant fittings. It's a $3200 to $3800 job. Hope that Santa was nice and that it's just a coolant hose connection or split hose.

while it sounds scary, I had this problem earlier in the year. In my case it was a hose that blew off mid boost. I did have it replaced with new at the Porsche dealer, but it was inexpensive. Fingers crossed for you.

Pipe in water pump housing broke. They have to pull the motor. Ugh.

The motor doesn't need to be removed to replace the water pump rather just dropped a little.
