Default Newbie Gauge Face question

Okay, I'm not new to Porsches, but this one has me stumped: I've swapped interior color from beige to black, but my gauges have beige faces. I want to go to black, aluminum or white (haven't decided) but the gauge face marketplace has nothing between the $20-24 faces and the $250/+ faces. They are just multilayer plastic panels with selective show-through. The old 'you get what you pay for' answer won't cut it.

Since it's about $275 to swap faces, I want to do it only once. Anyone have experience buying aftermarket gauge faces they like?

(I searched, but there seem to be no "after" reports on face swaps either here or in the 996 n/a forums)

Since you are in SoCal, contact North Hollywood Speedometer.

This guy is selling a whole cluster with white face gauges. Purchase, swap out and then re-sell on ebay.

They do all my work, but they do not sell gauge faces.

I like doing that kind of deal, but in this case, that's the expensive way around, since NH Speedo would charge $550 for the labor to do two face changes.

Just buy the whole 3 cluster unit at one time. I see them for sale on 6speed all the time in either black or white.

I have never seen beige faces before. Can you post a photo?

Sure. Here's the pic from the Chevy Dealer (!) ad when I found the car.

Well, it turns out the cluster holds the mileage. This was a shock to me, as I was sure that would be in the ECU, but no. So a gauge face change it's going to be unless I find a cluster with 46,6XX miles on it!

Good to know. I am looking for a set of brushed aluminum gauge faces.

Wow, they do look weird. I am sorry you are stuck with them.

Maybe the guys at Hollywood Speedometer can paint the faces?

The cluster does indeed hold the mileage and needs to match your ecu. The odometer recoding service at Palo Alto Speedo is around $100 if you want to swap the entire cluster.

That sounds like a solution.
