What a under $30k 106k mile car gets you

One week and about 300 miles later I am getting things sorted:
New OEM floor mats $75 shipped
Used carpet ECU cover behind the seats $85 shipped
New wiper blades $$14 from Costco
New front hood struts via EBAY $40
New air filter and cabin filter via Ebay $48
Waiting on a accumulator for stiff clutch
New Bosch battery(free under warranty) dead cell
Fixed an annoying rattle https://rennlist.com/forums/996-turb...ion-fixed.html
Once I install an accumulator, there is nothing left to do, unless I want to nitpick cosmetic issues.
Observations: I had not driven a 996tt since my father had a new one back in '03. Though it has brought back memories of my '96 993tt that I sold @4 years ago. Not much forgiveness in the suspension....More bone jarring than my previous Cayman S with 19" wheels. I originally was looking at 19" wheel sets but I think I will stay with the twists.
But this car is tight. Not a single rattle or noise with the radio off. If it wasn't for 100k wear and tear cosmetics, I would think it was a low mile car. I put it on my lift and the whole underside is dry as a bone.

Again, motor mounts. Yup, I realize your PPI guys didn't mention it, but from the clearance on your exhaust tips, I'll almost guarantee your mounts are sagging considerably. Probably transmission mounts too.

They're out there. Maybe not sunroof delete, but you never know where you'll find them. Just that I don't need to accumulate 996 Turbos like I do air cooleds.........

the big discount is maybe 25% off their hi market value for an under 50/40 k example. i don't believe the folks that have lower mileage 96t's will be able to get their initial investments out of them either. most bought them pre 991 and the intro of the newer iteration always sees previous versions of the car lessen in value.
using mine as an example with 123,500k miles it's worth 30 if i was being optimistic but many are seeing these go at wholesale for 25k! which is absurd, given i have had countless parts replaced as they have aged, and miles tacked on. every single item and function of my 500rwhp tt runs perfectly and as it should. that is key when buying one with "MILES" on it. see that many/all major stuff has been attended to. you'd be amazed to find what items wear out that no one ever gives any thought to. cosmetically is another story. put over a 100k miles on a car and it's gonna show up somewhere. but i drive the dogsh*t out of it every day and it'll keep up with most anything else if not leave it behind in a spray of rocks, pebbles, and and road strewn debris lol. 997tt's do NOT like to follow me up hills

Its not about getting your money back= I have many old coats that I love with worn zippers and missing buttons that keep me as warm as any coat can but when I go out for the evening I wear my good coat. Everyone here takes it so personally I really don't understand as they for the most part have beautiful homes and usually a few very nice vehicles so its not a pissing contest. My father who was a service station/repair shop owner taught me early on about the art of buying and selling cars, number one rule mile and condition matters. A sports car is like a pair of running shoes they get more wear and abuse on average then your good go to church shoes lol. To buy a high mileage sports car is a real gamble and any real car guy will tell you the same. 02996ttx50 your car well may be in better mechanical shape then mine I don't doubt it but by your own admission you flog it regularly and if it belonged to someone else knowing this would you take the chance of buying it and yes I know you will say you would.

would, and did belong to someone else, and i knew exactly what i was getting ( bought from a well known LA area pcar tech ) lol. it was hi mileage when i bought it but i pocketed the "change" from my totalled car that was ( i'm guessing ) a lot closer to yours in terms of condition. but this one shows its age well, everything works perfectly, and as i noted, it's 500 to the wheels which my 02 was not.
so having had the two examples, i'd take the 500 whp car that i can/do flog daily over a pristine garage kept one that was stock, in which i would wince at every pebble striking the undercarriage etc. but in terms of value, my car reminds me of the old joke about being alcoholic i.e. once you're a pickle you;'ll never be a cucumber again
eg, i dont think my car will ever be stock again, and as such would only be of interest to someone such as myself that wanted to "save" on the 20+k in mods, and drive it hard often and knows/needs the "difference" the basic bolt on's provide.
both types of cars have their own kinds of "value". but mine just won't translate well into coinage and i'm ok with that lol

I m happy that your happy but 20g is not enough of a reason for me to buy a car that's been flogged. Nothing is a guarantee and I'm smart enough to know that but I play the averages. You are a nice guy and I admire your enthusiasm for the forums= as I don't care to argue further I will let you have the last word.
