Just got oil changed, I'm severe OCD and have a track day in 3 weeks, funny sound?

5w50, is you're answer, life is good. No worries dude!
Dude, I wish I could get a hold of myself. I use to work on airplanes, the night after I worked on one the jet crashed and the pilot didn't make it. I thought it was my fault until the investigation finished up 6 months later. Ever since then with anything mechanical, I can't handle it. That's why I don't work on my cars anymore. Yeah, it sounds stupid and simple to say "just forget about it." It's not that simple. I wish I was...trust me...I hate this about myself.
I took the car to a shop that makes their lively hood off of racing Porsche cars...I emailed them asking for clarification that the oil is fine and why the used that viscosity...
The funny part about all this, looking on-line, people swear by their 15W-50 they run in their cars. I'm just about to quit surfing the internet.

lol...so the first number is an "absolute value" of either 0 or 5 (but have seen people running up to 15), but the second number I've been told 40, 50, or even 60 is acceptable. I wonder why that is.

So this thread completely derailed from the original intent, the sound of my engine. No one has said anything about it, and someone said it sounded fine, so I guess there is that.
As for the oil, next oil change will be at the dealer to avoid these shenanigans.

Yes, your engine sounds fine. The 10w-40 oil will be okay for a while, next change go with 5w-50 or 5w-40. Forget the dealer, if you worked on jets you can do the oil change yourself in an hour. Relax, life is good.

Stress out about stuff that really matters, like your health. These are just cars, who cares? If your car brings you stress instead of joy, get rid of it. If you decide to keep it, run 5w50. Proven stuff...

oem+ you have a funny way of absorbing the answers to the question you ask, here and elsewhere. you're going to get multiple opinions on most anything asked and usually the consensus opinion is right or the closest to "right" if there is no "one" way.
but if i were you? i'd stick with as your name implies oem fill and i think the 5/50 while not factory fill is fine by porsche. good luck.. and try and relax a bit.

I live just down the road from you in Bastrop and run 5-50 year round. 5-40 does fine as well, but is a little noisier in the Summer.
Motor is the quietest with 5-50 in it.
BTW. I always do my own oil changes on the Porsche. All my other cars I let someone else do it. It's not hard, but it is more involved than changing the oil in my truck. I want to make sure the oil is drained from all 4 points, the crush washers get replaced, oil filter housing o-rings get replaced, and the plugs are all torqued properly. If you're as OCD as you say, you might want to check out the DIY at the top here and do it yourself.

I don't do my own maintenance.

Another thought, are you using racing oil for an extended period of time or changing it out after the track days? I doubt racing oil is good for daily driving. IMHO

It's a car. Enjoy it. If you can't do that then get rid of it and use the money for something that you can actually enjoy.
