He said oil pumps are what you have to be concerned about so you make your own decision i just said i cant find 5w50 so he just laughed and i left. His 1 of 3 special training mech for Porsche SA. He just said always idle car after driving and depress clutch when starting.
I would get a new mechanic right away....

Good Day Guys

I am bumping up this thread.

I have done the oil change using Mobil 1 0w40.

Recently the car went in for a service at Porsche Centre in Durban and they have now changed from Mobil 1 to Motul 0w40.

The guy said that Motul 0w40 is the only true Synthetic oil out there and Porsche Dealership now only use it. I honestly do not understand that since the car did come out the Factory with mobil 1 stickers

But i wanted to ask does Motul oil 0w40 burn more then mobil 1 and i have noticed the car is burning it pretty fast more then i think then the mobil 1. After a hard breakfast run the oil level did drop significantly.

I'll voice my opinion again, try running a 5w50...also good for protection.
I run a number of 996TT's on it (Castrol 5w50) and none have to add oil over the oil change interval... My car uses about half a litre over the oil change interval, which is about 3-5000km in my case

i ONLY run castrol 5/50 after years of some very safe and professional advice vis a vis switching. the 0/40 is waaaaay too "thin" a viscosity for our frequent 100 degree ambient temps. 5/50 she purrs all year long and burns less oil as a side benefit. i don't sense i am unduly taxing the pump at all. but i'm not inside there, so that is pure conjecture as to the relative "safety" of 5/50 edge VS M1 0/40. i hated that sh*t.

5/50 M1 at the lubricant store was $144 for 18qts.
Maybe this summer I'll change after every other track day and put the used stuff in my other cars to see if some Porsche rubbs off on them.

Napa had on sale in March for $5.99. Plus Mobil had a $12/case rebate. Limit 2 rebates per family.

Just finding this thread. as someone who's had more exposure to the japanese imports, I'm wondering if anyone has ever installed a turbo timer? That would obviate the need to sit in the car to cool the turbos. Learning lots!

I'd be inclined to want to get out of a Japanese car sooner too. The ritual of proper turbo cooling is fine with me (unless you just passed a few folks at hi speed and they happen to park next to you) and a good opprtunity to listen to the engine after running it hard.

If you prefer M1 5w-50, Amazon has it, and you can save a few bucks if it has free shipping over the lube store.

Amazon.com: Castrol 06250 EDGE 5W-50 SPT Synthetic Motor Oil - 1 Quart Bottle, (Pack of 6): Automotive Amazon.com: Castrol 06250 EDGE 5W-50 SPT Synthetic Motor Oil - 1 Quart Bottle, (Pack of 6): Automotive

more amazon deals for the castrol 5/50 i run $52.00 a six pack. runs 8.75 a qt but the car seems to like it more so than the m1 0/40. i cant ever find a deal on m1 5/50 when i need it, or i'd try that too.
