I think a more analog based 996 suits me much more than a digital/dealer reliant 997. The only concerns are obvious...the car I am looking to find is over 10 years old and I dont know if I will be able to find a super clean one. I don't really know what a super low miles garage queen 996tt is worth...
They're out there. Bought a 2003 996tt with 3,700 miles in May from a dealer for $45k. It had been sitting in a garage for 11 years, but the dealer spent $9k fixing things and ensuring it ran well. Given the interest in the 996tt in this forum, it would seem to me that they wouldn't be that hard to sell, if one chose to.

So if I have this correct...

996TT ~ $45,000
996 GT3 ~ $55,000
997TT ~ $65,000
997 GT3 ~ $75,000

Those are rough estimates, there are plenty of variables, but are there one or more that standout as far as RESALE is concerned? It wouldn't be bad to get into a car with potential appreciation. I know the thread is a tad off topic, but I'd like the 996TT lurkers perspective. I'm still leaning towards a 996TT, but I'm a bit worried about finding a clean and non abused one that won't require me dumping significant cash into, which would break me into the 55-65k realm. WWRD?

If this popped up in a decent color, hardtop, manual...I wouldn't think twice about it, but it seems I haven't come across a deal like this yet

Maybe it's just Miami...but more likely me not actively looking day in and day out.

Midnight blue, manual, X50, full leather interior, 3700 miles in May, now at 12,000 in August. It was traded in by a lady whose husband had bought it, then unfortunately passed away. It stayed in her garage, though it appears that it was occasionally run and safety inspected. The Mercedes dealer that took it in trade, sent it to their Porsche dealership, which replaced the seats, tires, gave it a full service, replaced all fluids. Invoice shows $9k worth of work. I was the first one to see it after it got returned, and worked a deal right there. I'll post some pics shortly after I wash it this weekend. It's been a fabulous car, much more powerful than my 964, and a blast to drive. Took my mother out in it, hit the gas, got the requisite scream ;-).

996tt w/X50 running about $55-65k (canadian dollars) here in Canada. With the exchange rate at 1$Cdn=0.76 $US they are a steal !

Question Clarification on the Mezger engine ?

So a 2007 GT3 would have a Mezger engine, without the "potential" IMS bearing issue and others problems........

Yessir, GT2/GT3 until 2012 (997 GT2RS and 997 GT3 RS 4.0 were last cars with Mezger ) used Mezger engines

Hmmmm.......very interesting............

got my eyes on a 996tt X50........vs ........2007 GT3.

Both have the Mezger engine.

not the same money though, the 996tt X50 is half the price of the GT3.

I will always take a GTx over a TT as preference in driving experience, but others might like a TT over GT... drive both and see what you prefer...also consider a 996Gt3, fantastic car which is probably undervalued currently

55K GT3's are hard to come by, atleast when I was in the market. Really I think it is more:

996TT: 40-45
996GT3: 60-65
997TT: 65-70
997GT3: 75-90

Atleast when I was looking. Would have loved to pickup a GT3 for low 50's but they are getting more expensive every day. That's why I picked up the TT, didnt want to out-wait their current market values! Seems to me that they will be trading for upper 40's/lower 50's very soon and the 996GT3 is only moving higher.... Lots of 996GT3's getting snatched up by dealers and listing for mid to upper 60's now.

It pains me to read old posts of GT3's for sale in the 40's. DAMNIT!
