I have the UMW stage 1 tune on my car. It was installed after I put the k16/24 turbos in and there was a big difference in power delivery. It is definitely worth the money!

I'll let others chime in with their feedback, but on a 996TT there are two different things we changed that you're going to notice while driving:

1) 7000rpm trans rev limiter with 6800rpm shift point vs. 6800/6600rpm stock. Must be paired with EVOMS engine software to work correctly.
2) Faster shifts under load and at high RPM. Time from starting the shift to ending it is shorter.

Net result behind the wheel is the car has a wider, more usable powerband (especially when modified) and is more responsive while shifting. It also increases the programmed torque limiters in the transmission software, but that is usually not a huge deal on the 996TT (it is on the 997TT).

is there a shift time spec for the before and after flash.

also a question about a 01 996tt tiptronic that i have...... when in manual mode if car is wound out in 1st gear it seems to shift itself out of second and third gear automatically. iv always wondered if i flashed it would it stop doing that?

evoms tranny tune only works with evoms tune? Not compatible with other tunes?

I love your white 01 polarporsche

You can't hold gear in manual mode in 01's? Does it shift out of gear after 8 sec's?

I should say we only support it when used with our ECU software. Our TCU software was developed symbiotically with our ECU software, so the two are engineered to work together. The car may have issues refusing to upshift or shifting too early with other tuners' software if it does not match up with the revised TCU programming.

Honestly, due to how the software is setup I cannot give a concrete answer on how much faster the shifts are. Next time we have a 996/997TT with the tune in house I will try to do some logging and get a comparison to stock. Back-to-back, seat of the pants the improvement is perceptible. The faster shifts only occur at high RPM, full throttle shifts--like if you ran the car to redline and shifted. This delivers the performance improvement and also helps save the trans at higher power levels.

Also we are not able to change the programming to let the car hold gears to redline without breaking other features. The TCU is just not setup to allow that.

I'm downplaying the TCU upgrade a little, but it's one of the important parts to getting these cars to drive well and reliably at higher power levels.

thx. its shifts fine normaly. but i notice when i launch in first i shift into 2nd then it shifts early by itself out of 2nd into 3rd and then again into 4th. almost seems like its doing it as a safety measure from wheel slip. iv prob owned 4-5 tip turbos dont recall other ones doing this.

that doesn't sound right....Mine will go all the way to redline before shifting 1st through 4th no matter what
the sensors on the stock steering wheel suck also. aftermarket paddles really cut down on shift reaction

From what I've experienced, comparing stock vs 2 different paddle systems, the aftermarket ones seem quicker.
The actual gear change speed does not change as that is set TCU.
The difference is how quick the up/downshift is engaged once the comand is initiated.
On the stock wheel, once you hit the up or downshft, it takes for example 3 sec to initiate the shift/see the gear number on the dash change.

With this unit,

once the shift is initiated, it takes about 2 sec compared to stock
It's a newer benz amg unit.

with this one,

once you command the shift, the shift happens within 1 sec compared to stock wheel.
The shift starts as quick as a 1st gen pdk unit 987.2 997.2. I'm not talking about the actual gear shift time. I'm referring to the delay between paddle initiation and gear shift start.
It's a works bell unit specific for 986 996.

I have the Evoms tiptronic flash along with the ECU flash along with new MAF, complete exhaust and on it goes.

The transmission does seem a little more lively but sometimes 3rd to 2nd is a bit of a jolt.

I have a "Raid" carbon fibre/leather wheel with paddle shifters on my 996 TT. Got it from Gert at Carnewal in Belgium. It's on their website.
