Default PSM ABS failure warning intermitent ?

Hello,

Every now & then when I start the car up I get the "PSM- ABS failure" warning signal on the dash. It also states " drive to Porsche repair shop"
Then it goes away for a few days?

Is it a bad sensor or relay etc?

Thanks in advance.

Could be a wheel speed sensor.

Could be a MAF. The PSM/ABS require some input from the DME and the DME requires a valid/plausible signal from the MAF to construct this input and if the MAF is acting up...

However, before I would blame the speed sensor or MAF I'd be more willing to blame the battery, especially if you tell me the failure warning appears almost concurrent with cold engine start.

I would suggest getting the codes read out to better diagnose your problem. It very well could be your MAF. I had a similar issue with the PSM/ABS lights coming on on the highway under boost. Turned out to be a broken wastegate.

^ +1 i'd be wary of throwing parts at the car. while new mafs can and do cure all manner of issues that can/do cause abs/psm cels, they aren't *always" faulty either. better to get codes read and if you're going to throw parts at issues? it makes more sense to ensure that the codes you find stored are specific to the part or parts you wan't to replace.

Yes, read the codes. An intermittent problem is usually not a wheel speed sensor. When they go bad they stay bad.

Had this issue a couple months ago. Started with an intermittent light, and then evolved into a constant condition. Turned out to be the brake pedal sensor. Cheap and easy fix, there are a few threads here on the board. My guess is that this is your problem as well, especially if the warning comes on at start up.

Next time the ABS/PSM light is on, have somebody check to see if your brake lights are working correctly. When the sensor goes bad, the brake lights don't operate, either.

The PSM ABS light and seek shelter notifications lol, are the universal "limp mode" for the 996tt. I got the same thing for misfires. It relates to a lot of universal stuff......
