A PPI is important but you or someone must experience the car as it will be used. This requires a test ride then a test drive. The route wants to be long enough and varied enough to give one the chance to experience the car as like I said above as the car will be used.

The route distance should be around 15 miles or so. Done twice -- once as a passenger and once again as a driver -- gives the engine/car time to manifest any issues. It gives the DME time to run through some tests of various sensor and control systems and flag any problems.

It gets the engine/drivetrain up to temperature and generally leaks are more evident then and the PPI has a better chance of spotting leak sign after a thorough test ride/drive.
