Well said. Sometimes these things work out in the long run. My VW GTI got a new balanced and blueprinted 3.0L VR6 out of the deal when my engine got hydro-locked. I love that car more than I ever have because of it. Any plans for internal parts or just a used motor?

Carlo...here is a link to the original post:

Mtrboatvr6....I've got a used motor with 45K miles. Not doing any internals on it in hopes that I can make it run til 80k miles as this engine did.

When I disassembled the engine, I took off the wiring harness and fuel rails as a unit. Messing around in the garage tonight, I noticed that one of the fuel injectors was disconnected. It happened to be the one going to the bad cylinder. I could have accidentally disconnected it when I took the wiring harness off, but it just struck me as coincidental that it was that particular one. If it was off when the engine was last running, surely I would have noticed, right? Could this be the smoking gun? Wouldn't it have thrown a CEL? Odd.

^would be un-related to the damage, no fuel=99% unlikely 0 engine damage ever...

Where did the piston go? Did you remove it? Are its remnants in the crank case?

That is an odd failure.
I am thinking maybe you cracked a ring or rings on that piston. That might explain the low oil warning you got because the cracked ring could cause the crank case to pressurize and force the oil out. Then the piston just let go.

Hey guys...an open invitation to any Atlanta area boarders looking for a weekend tech session. Friends and I will be in the garage this weekend working on the engine install. PM me for details.
