Default towing a 996 turbo with GT2 kit?

I got an ugly surprise today. my fuel line broke at sac international airport.
called AAA.the guy asked for the tow bar. I pulled it out and suprise number 1. it wouldn't fit the front or back. Ive got a GT2 kit on the car and the threats on the tow bar didn't line up with the the car. I tried front and back, no go.

surprise number 2 they say they don't tow modded cars.
also that's it's dangerous towing a porsche attaching to the underneath A frames.
fortunately, I managed to do a temporary fix to get it back to my house, but unnerving that the car can't be towed.
is there a special tow bar for the body kit?

the car has been lowered and there's a front lip so it's pretty low. how do you tow these cars?

tow bar?....use a flat-bed, pull it up with tow hook into bumper
Also if a true GT2 front end, take 1 minute and pull the lip off for added clearance
Cheers,

i think he menat tow hook didn't thread into both front and rear? The bumper shouldn't be an issue unless the hole isn't lined up like a stock bumper...

yea...don't have the car pulled up by the control arms....they'll bend it..ask me how i know

OP, sorry if I misread/interpreted your post.
The tow hook would not screw into the bumper structure?
Replacement tow hook/'lug' is 996.721.151.00, unfortunately the accepting/female nut in the bumper structure doesn't appear to be available separately, despite being removable-try a wreckers if it's stripped out/missing.
BTW, throw up a couple pictures of the car, looks nice!

very strange. how does an aftermarket gt2 front not have the tow hook receptacle line up with the insert? that makes no sense. if thats what the issue is.

first, of course I"m doing a flat bed. it showed up but they wouldn't and couldn't tow it.
they wouldn't because they said the car was modified and AAA in ca. apparently has an exclusion for modded cars. haven't checked it out yet.

he probably would have but the tow hook from the car could not screw into the hole, front or back.
it seemed like it was the wrong size. tow guy said the bumper kit changed the depth. he had a couple other eye hooks from different kinds of cars and none of them would work either.
I'm not sure why it didn't work other than the fact that the threads of the hook went well past the threaded part in the bumper. when the hook was in the bumper hole the threads were about six inches forward (closer to the front of the car). I couldn't even screw it in when the threads were aligned, it seemed like the diamater of the female was different.
so the tow bar/hook would go in the hole to the end but wouldn't screw in, so there was nothing to hold it in place.
he didn't want to attach his cables to the arms underneath the car for fear of messing up the suspension. so there was no way to pull the car on the flat bed.

I don't know what kind of kit it is. all I do know is that the tow hook slides in and out of the holes (front and back) and neither I nor the tow truck guy could get it attached.

I feel like I must be missing something. checked the manual of course.
but I think the tow bar is the wrong size.

if I do manage to figure it out, I guess I'll have to remove the bottom lip to increase clearance. from a post seems like that's not a big deal.

the front and rear bumper have to the plug and once removed has the hole with the threads in it.

Try some metric bolts to figure size thread and coarseness etc and have one made= but agree stock hook should work.

I tried and the tow guy tried. Seems like the hook's diameter is too thin. It doesn't catch the threads. Doesn't seem that hard to do if it fit. Would a regular car place like o reiley have them? If I'd take what I got and try for the next size up

I seem to remember the tow hooks being a special thread size and pitch. I was going to make up a gopro mount with the same threads, but they were special and could not be found off the shelf. Might just consider ordering a new OEM hook and give it a shot...

Would be nice if someone local could let you try theirs from another 996. rabbit1445 has some good advice may be easier to order new I doubt they are expensive.

^ agree a pic would help. doesn't sound as if the gt2 bumper is the issue. is/was it stored inside the tool kit in its insert? as long as it reaches the threads, it should snugly screw right in. odd.

like I said 996.721.151.00 is only ~$15 from Porsche...just buy one to eliminate any doubt/have a spare..
