Who told you that was "fair" price? Was it a new OEM Porsche alternator?

Carlo, I don't really care if its fair or not. I trust them and I'm happy with the outcome. My car is running well!. But thanks for your concern...

You started the conversation. But I guess you don't really want to have one. Enjoy.

$860 for an alternator!!! Even a Bosch oem one is like $500! BUT you can get them for $160-$350... Genuine Porsche one is $1865!!!! Porsche tax is huge on this part!

I do it myself for less than $200

Good information Dranon! You should be very proud of your self! I got the same prices. Unfortunately, I am a busy physician with very limited time to enjoy life and my priorities are driving and sailing. I think my hours are far more expensive that the shop! 😄. I am one of the customers repair shops love because we end up supporting their business! 😉. And you wouldn’t like having me under a hood even if it is in the rear part of the car 😁

However, I already have my pressure washer, a huge selection of shampoos, leather cleaners, leather conditioners, and ceramic friendly products for my toy! I also installed the PCCM PLUS and totally adore it! A game changer! Not sure if I will have nonstandard, aftermarket modifications to the car. My fear is imbalancing what Porsche felt was perfect at the time, and affecting the sale value of the vehicle. It is in perfect condition w only 26K miles. I had the 40,000 mile service done to make sure all fluids were topped and new. Thanks again for showing me different options. I realize how much cheaper it could be.

I am also a very busy physician! Priorities are different for everyone. Mine are Skydiving and scuba-diving. ALTHOUGH I am NOT one to spend all that time cleaning my car. THAT I have someone come and do!! However I LOVE working on my cars and find it challenging and relaxing.

Replaced the voltage regulator with HUCO #130570..alternative to the Bosch F00M145350, F00M144136, etc etc...there are MANY part numbers we can use...cheap and easy fix.
Tech tip: Sometimes the alternator can be hard to slide back onto its engine perch, if so, try pulling the steel bushing-threaded mounting point out a bit to provide more clearance, it will 'tighten' itself back to proper clearance when back on the perch and torqued.
Have attached pictures(sorry for crappy cell pics) of complete alternator back, with regulator removed, and new vs old regulators.
I replaced my VR with a good used one and my alternator still didn't charge. What else could be wrong?

Well its either NOT a good used VR or your alternator is bad. Pull it and have it bench tested and/or rebuilt!

VR was changed on mine right when I got it, voltage improved immediately - cheap test to see how the alternator is running.
