Default 315/30 tires on the rear with OZ 12" wheels

I got these wheels from another 996tt owner. He has 315/30 on the rears.

I am wondering if this is safe. I have pss9's and the car is lowered. Seem to be fine near fender but the inside of the tire is very close to the liner near the bottom of the liner (not exactly bottom more like 4 inches up from the bottom.. I would say there is about 1/4 inch of space from liner to the tire. I can just barely get a finger tip in there. I've drove around for 20 min on bumpy roads with a few hard turns and there has been no rubbing. I placed some tape there as well to see if it would wear but nothing yet.

Can anyone tell me if your running Gt2 wheel and tire sizes how close does your liner sit to the tire? When the suspension hits a bump and does the body go down and the space increase or decrease. I am thinking it would increase near the bottom of the liner and decrease near the top of the tire. I don't think there is any space issue at the top of the tires and the liner.

I'm running GT2 wheels and tires without issue using Michelin PS2's. I recently did a track event using stock 996TT twists and GT2 sized NT-01's and did not have any rubbing issues. No spacers, car is not lowered excessively. 1/4" sounds pretty good

i can't imagine a lowered car with 315/30's without rolling the fenders, as a setup that you will like for long.

if you bounce around in VERY tight canyons corners, stuff can/will rub. i guess it's why folks roll their fenders. i still get moments of rubbing but most crunching is reserved for my fronts. nothing i can do there lol

Rolling the fenders would only help the top outside of the tire from rubbing the fender. I have quite a bit of room there. I am talking the rear inside edge of the tire 4 o'clock position and the plastic wheel liner that has quite a bit of play and space behind the liner.

I could put some spacers on it which would increase the gap from the inner tire edge to the wheel liner but then I may have the outside of the tire closer to the fender which would probably then require me to have the fenders rolled.

sorry, didn't read beyond "rub". i have scuff/wear marks there and i suspect it is where it's rubbing. but again, rear contact on my car is rare while the front is more frequent. it's only under duress and normal driving wouldn't cause it to occur. i drive the car like a dirt bike

upon reflection, when i ran 315/30's on twists i also had 15mm spacers rear with rolled rears, was perfect. but when i went to a 12" rear, i removed them. even more perfect rolling fenders never hurt! and it's a very easy process for someone with proper mallet skills. gl w it.

go with the GT2 side brackets to get the additional inner clearance

Did a search for that and found this thread. Good info. I will try and use the heat gun for a first attempt.

I've got 12 inch rears and 315/30 tires. Initially the tire would make contact with the liner, exactly where you say. After some time with a heat gun and pressing the plastic in with the butt-end of a hammer, I managed to find the space necessary to clear the tires.

My fenders have been rolled BTW, it was necessary in the front with GT2 sized tires and wheels. In the rear, it may not have been needed. I am lowered about the height of a GT2.

Thanks, I assume GT2 front are 9" wheels with 235/40's. I have run 8" with 235/40's and now my OZ are 8.5" with 235/40's in the front and there is no issue at all with this size.

I got the heat gun out tonight, was able to bend the liner back on one side. Can get my hand up to the first knuckles between the tire and the liner there. The other side wasn't as easy. looks like about 1/4 inch space or a finger tip though there is play and can go back more just doesn't want to melt into place.

I used 15mm hubcentrics in the rear and had knuckle clearance between plastic and tire (1"+). Tires are 315 on 18" 997 turbo rims.
